LST - 388 was laid clown on 20 June 1942 at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co.; launched on 28 September 1942; sponsored by Miss Barbara Ann Besse; and commissioned on 20 November 1942.
LST - 389 was laid down on 20 June 1942 at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co.; launched on 28 September 1942; sponsored by Miss Clara Elizabeth Ashe; and commissioned on 24 November 1942, Lt. George C. Carpenter, USNR, in command.
LST - 395 was laid down on 28 September 1942 at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co.; launched on 23 November 1942; sponsored by Miss Audrey Jane Terry; and commissioned on 19 Decemeber 1942, Lt. A.

 LST-393
USS LST 393 was built by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company at Newport News, Virginia.
USS LST 393 participated in three invasions in the Atlantic, Mediteranean and made 75 voyages to foreign shores.
USS LST 393 was decommissioned at New Orleans, Louisiana on March 1, 1946 and stricken from the Navy list one year later.

 LST-832
On the morning of November 15th the 832 reported to the Officer in Chargo of LST Shakedown, Panama City, Fla., and was caught "with her pants down" in an arrival inspection by Captain Weeden, USU.
On December 14, 1944, the LST 832 departed the United States and proceeded alone and without escort, down the Gulf of Mexico, through Yucatan, and down the Caribbean Sea, arriving at Cristobel in the Panama Canal Zone on the night of December 20th.
At the time of this writing, the LST 832 was approaching Subic Bay and was making ready to celebrate her first birthday...November Fourth, 1945, one year after being commissioned at New Orleans.

 Muskegon County Convention & Visitors Bureau - LST 393
One of the few remaining LST's (Landing Ship Tank) in the country, LST 393 is currently undergoing an extensive renovation so that her history and those who served aboard this gallant ship may be preserved and shared with generations to come.
USS LST 393 was commissioned on December 11, 1942.
The LST 393 is an important vessel and a memorial to the men who sacrificed so much in defense of our country.

Her shakedown cruise was held in Galveston Bay, from 10 to 20 June, and she returned to the yard at New Orleans for five days before moving to Mobile for further drydocking.
LST-1144 transited the Panama Canal on 12 July and arrived at Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, on 1 August.
The LST moved to New Orleans the following week after unloading her cargo.

 USS LST 393 - Historic Naval Ship in Muskegon, Michigan
Summer 2005 promises to be an exciting season aboard the USS LST 393, a World War II amphibious landing ship docked on the shores of Muskegon Lake in downtown Muskegon, Michigan.
The ship is currently in the process of being restored by dedicated volunteers for use as a museum, to honor our veterans and in remembrance of the sacrifices they made in defense of America.
The USS LST 393 is also available for private parties, special events, and fundraiser's.

A family of a soldier, who was a passenger on an LST in the Pacific, has registered to refurbish the compartment he bunked in.
Contact the USS Silversides at 213-755-1230 and ask if the date and time of your arrival is ok. Driving to the National reunion in Buffalo from the west of southwest would be just a short side trip for you.
With the USS Saipan going into Crete maybe if we ask enough times they might get some help like the "white hats" that are helping on the LST-393 in Muskegon.

Was transfered for a short period in an emergency deployment to the USS Bordelon to be on the blockade of Cuba as a radioman, transfered back to the Luce afterwards.
I attended the funeral of President John F. Kennedy while in DC.My last duty was aboard the USS Salish out of Mayport Fla. We were the prime ship that fought the fires aboard the cruise ship Vi king Princess as she burned in the Carribean.
Subsequently, I was assigned to USS Indepen- dence CVA-62 at NOB Norfolk.

USS YMS-231, a 320-ton auxiliary motor minesweeper built at Boothbay Harbor, Maine, was commissioned in August 1943.
She served as the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force minesweeper Eta Jima until 1967 and was disposed of as a target in August 1968.
USS Firecrest (AMS-10) underway during the mid-1950s, after removal of her forward gun.

Sidney Muskin is a 94-year-old former lieutenant commander of LST 596 in the Pacific Theatre of World War II.
A recent highlight of his life was an outing to Muskegon, MI, to visit the LST 393, docked in that city and undergoing restoration.
This will take place at the USS Silversides Museum and aboard the LST 393 that is moored in the downtown docking area.

Transferred to the USS NIMITZ (CVN-63) for their 9 month-world cruez, two months after cruiz finished I was so missing the sea life that I cross-decked to the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69) for their 6 month deployment to the Med.

After the German crew exited the U-boat, Lawrence entered in search of codes or encryption devices but the boat was sinking & he had to swim to the ladder in order to clamber out.
The majority of the survivors, German & Canadian, were subsequently recovered by destroyer USS Lea.
HM ships Grenville, the flotilla leader for the U-class fleet destroyers, Rother & Jed, both River-class frigates, were undamaged in the engagement 1944 - USS Stingray lands men and supplies on Luzon, Philippines to support guerilla operations against the Japanese 1944 - Escort carrier HMS Nabob made port under her own power.

JTF 1 was subdivided into eight task groups, each of which performed some specific function.
Headquarters for JTF 1 was on the USS Mount McKinley (AGC-7) (Joint Task Group Flagship).
It also furnished boats and boat crews to the boat pool, supplied two AKAs and two LSTs for the construction unit, and transported and quartered the press and observers.
