 USS Warrick (AKA-89) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
USS Warrick (AKA-89) was an Andromeda class attack cargo ship named after Warrick County, Indiana.
Landing craft, LCVP's and LCM's, from USS Warren (APA-53) assisted in the unloading, continuing that task until 2200, when the operation ceased due to two factors: contact with her beach party had been lost and the beach itself was reportedly coming under shellfire.
Shifting to the Pescadores on the 28th, she arrived on the 29th to replenish the small seaplane tender USS Floyds Bay (AVP-40) at Shochi Wan anchorage.

 LST 494 in the European Theater
USS LST 494`s keel was laid down on August 10, 1943 by Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Co. in Evansville, Indiana.
LST 494 was armed with a 3 inch/50 cal. gun on her stern (later replaced with a twin 40-mm gun) and multiple 40-mm and 20-mm anti-aircraft guns.
LST 494 was ordered to the Easy Red sector of Omaha Beach to unload her remaining troops and cargo onto a rhino barge during the early morning hours of D-plus-two.

 USS Converse (DD-509) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
USS Converse (DD-509), a Fletcher-class destroyer, was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for George A. Converse (1844–1909).
The destroyer returned to action 3 November 1944 when she joined the screen of carriers covering the convoy routes to newly invaded Leyte.
She gave fire support to the landings in Lingayen Gulf on 9 and 10 January 1945, and then joined the task unit assigned to recapture Corregidor.

Shipmates, Hutchins familymembers and friends of LST 473 gathered in Eagle Lake, Texas September 5-7, 2003 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the attack on LST 473 and the loss of Hutchins and 7 other shipmates.
Former crew members of two ships that heroically went to the aid of the stricken LST 473 immediately after she was hit were special guests at the ceremony.
The wreath was covered with white and red carnations with blue ribbons attached that bore, in gold letters, “USS LST 473” and the names and home states of each crew member killed in action.

History of USS LST 173 by Andy Swenson, MoMM3c Submitted January 20, 1999 to the LST 173 web site at: http://users.erols.com/reds1/LST173.htm The USS LST 173 was built by the Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Company of Evansville, Indiana.
In August 1944 the LST 173 weigh anchor in Naples Bay and sailed in convoy to become involved in the invasion of Southern France (August 15, 1944 - Operation Dragoon).
After supporting the invasion of Southern France, LST 173 was transferred to the United Kingdom on December 24, 1944, and later returned to U.S. custody at Norfolk, Virginia on April 3, 1946.

Following shakedown the newly designated flagship of LST Group 99 departed New York 11 May 1945 in convoy for the Western Pacific.
Though given a name, New London County (LST 1066), on 1 July 1955, the ship remained inactive until the aftermath of the Cuban missile crisis of 1962.
The Navy placed several LSTs in commission in reserve and created ResLSTRon TWO at Little Creek, Va. New London County joined this squadron 19 June 1963.

Served on the USS Thomaston from April 1967 until February 1968.
I was on board USS Thomaston on 10 Jan., 1966, when she steamed out of San Diego.

Commenced screening to seaward of USS DENVER as various units of Task Group 77.3.1 formed cruising disposition, 5 miles west of Corregidor Island.
Maneuvered at various courses and speeds as directed by CDD 42 to assist HOPEWELL in the destruction of obstructions at entrance to Mariveles Harbor in the form of buoys with chains attached which had to be removed before harbor could be swept.
When the hit occurred it was necessary however, to send the assistant gunnery officer to the scene to obtain a true estimate of the damage, equipment put out of commission and that which could still be used.

 USS Converse (DD-509) — History
On 23 February 1942 the keel of the destroyer USS Converse (DD 509) was laid in the yards of the Bath Iron Works Corporation, Bath, Maine.
In the gathering darkness of the 21st of December, Converse rescued 266 survivors of LST 749.
After her return to the United States, by directive dated January 1947, USS Converse was placed out of commission, in reserve, attached to the US Atlantic Reserve Fleet with her berthing area at Charleston, South Carolina.

• The U.S.S. Archer-Fish arrived Midway from her Third War Patrol on July 15, 1944.
Normal refit was accomplished by U.S.S. Proteus followed by a three day training period.
Consisted of one LST type landing craft, one smoker of about 800 tons with high masts and a high stack, similar to our YOs and two wooden trawlers.

 USS Converse (DD-509) — DANFS History
HMS Victorious (foreground)—temporarily renamed USS Robin—and USS Saratoga, at Nouméa, New Caledonia, 1943.
With Converse and Pringle escorting, Victorious sailed from Norfolk to Pearl Harbor, where they joined Saratoga's Task Force 14.
Arriving at Nouméa 17 May 1943 and renamed USS Robin, Victorious embarked US aircraft and aircrew, and with Saratoga swept the Solomon Islands, whilst Saratoga embarked all the strike squadrons including the Fleet Air Arm 832 Squadron Avengers.

Following shakedown in the Chesapeake Bay area, LST–1064 loaded a cargo of ammunition at Earle, N.J., and sailed for the Pacific war front, reaching Ulithi, 23 June 1945.
As the end of the war approached, LST Group 99 advanced its operations to the Philippines and at Leyte LST–1064 transferred her cargo to fleet ships while loading new supplies and embarking units of an air service group destined to strengthen the occupation forces in Japan.
Two voyages to Yokohama took place between 4 October and 19 November before arrival of orders to return home.

In 1969, as a result of President Nixon's phase one pullout, Hampshire County made (3) excursions into Cambodia in support of the Riverine Force.
Once within 15 miles of Phnom Phen transferring ammunition to USS Hunterdon County.
The last remnants of the USS Hampshire County (LST-819) appears to be her Bell, which in 1992 was located on the Quarterdeck of the Marine Corps Support Battalion, Marine Corps Recruiting Depot, Parris Island S.C.
