  USS Mullany at Okinawa
The USS Gherardi (DMS-30) stood by to take on survivors, and her rescue assistance team played water on the Mullany.
In the next hours the USS Purdy (DD-734) came along side and helped extinguished the deck fires, and rescue survivors.

The USS LST 883 was laid down by the Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Company of Evansville, Indiana on 16 November 1944, launched on 30 December 1944 and commissioned at New Orleans, Louisiana on 23 January 1945, Lt. Winfield H.
LST 883 was taken down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers to New Orleans, Louisiana by a "ferry crew".
On 20 April 1946, the USS LST 883 is decommissioned at Samar, P.I., and transferred to the U. Army on 26 August 1946 for use in Japan.

 LST 282 Sunk by German Glider Bomb
Boats standing by were the LST 282 LCVP numbers one and two, six LCVPs from the LST 283, at least one LCVP from the LST 50, several LCVPs from the LST 491, and one U.S. Navy tug which remained well off.
In addition it is desired to commend the exceedingly prompt and valuable aid rendered by the Commanding Officer of the LST 283 who personally conducted his small boats in picking up survivors close aboard the LST 282.
It is again desired to emphasize the fact that from all reports the crew of the LST 282 conducted themselves in conformity with the highest traditions of the Naval Service.

Comments: After class A enginemen school in San Diego I was assigned to the USS Lenawee and spent the better part of four years with her.
Comments: We have 283 shipmates in the database and publish the Lenawee Log for those in the crew and families.
Comments: My dad, William "Bill" Cayer, was stationed on the USS Lenawee and drove the LCVPs, etc. I've always enjoyed learning of his experiences and was interested to know if anyone remembers him or has any pictures of the ship that I can reproduce, etc. for his birthday.

 USS Crook County
The letter was written to inform the commissioners that a Navy ship, the LST-611, was being christened the USS Crook County, after counties in Wyoming and Oregon.
Because the LSTs were designed to “skid” right up onto the beaches to unload their cargo, they were not expected to survive their initial landings and were not assigned names.

Comments= Was interested in M.A.Arnheiter since I served with him aboard USS ABBOT 1958-1960.
After he left Vance John spent time on Guam, then on to San Francisco to the U.S.S. Twining after which he was honorably discharged.
to fire fighting school and then went to San Francisco were the USS VAnce was in dry-dock being converted to a DER.

 USS Satyr (ARL-23) Roster
The Satyr was my second tour in Vietnam, and my first was on board the USS Caddo Parish LST 515 from 1968 - 1969.
I was later transfered to the USS Zelima.
It is not a complete roster, and will be updated as names are made available.
