Was transfered for a short period in an emergency deployment to the USS Bordelon to be on the blockade of Cuba as a radioman, transfered back to the Luce afterwards.
I attended the funeral of President John F. Kennedy while in DC.My last duty was aboard the USS Salish out of Mayport Fla. We were the prime ship that fought the fires aboard the cruise ship Vi king Princess as she burned in the Carribean.
Subsequently, I was assigned to USS Indepen- dence CVA-62 at NOB Norfolk.

Tom is a Vietnam Veteran and served aboard the USS Arikara ATF 98, the USS Abnaki ATF 96, the USS Conserver ARS 39 and the USS Lipan ATF 85, all out of Pearl Harbor.
Additionally Tom served aboard the USS Rehoboth AGS 50, the USS Virgo AE 30, the USS Peoria LST 1183 and some shore duty at NAAS Whiting Field in Florida and COMPHIBPAC in San Diego.
Mike is a Vietnam Veteran and served aboard the USS Moctobi (ATF 105) from 1968-1970 and aboard USS Molala (ATF 106) from 1971 to 1972 He was a Radioman.

I then reported aboard the USS Jack and remained with her until June of 1968 when I reported to the Submarine Base at New London, Conn. for shore duty.
Was then assigned to the USS Odax.Served aboard the Odax until early fall of 1952 and was trasferred to Bethesda Naval Hospital.Had back operation in late November and honorably discharged on March 3, 1953.
Transferred to the USS NIMITZ (CVN-63) for their 9 month-world cruez, two months after cruiz finished I was so missing the sea life that I cross-decked to the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69) for their 6 month deployment to the Med.

The Munro received the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation for her part in the SAR and recovery efforts.
1943-The Coast Guard-manned USS LST-167 and the USS LST-334 with a partial Coast Guard crew landed troops during the invasion of Vella Lavella in the central Solomons despite fierce resistance from the Japanese defenders.
Japanese aircraft attacked the invasion fleet, hitting LST-167 with two bombs that killed 10 of her crew and wounded 10.

I served on the USS ALGORAB (AKA-25) from 12/31/41 to July of '43 at which time I left her during the invasion of Rendova in the New Georgia Islands as part of ComServDiv102.
Also I helped to commission the USS Toledo (CA 133) and after her first world curise I transferred to Submarines in Jan.'48, in which, I finished my Naval Career in '53.

The USS Silversides Foundation is moving forward with plans to restore the Highway 16 to her original LST 393 configuration in World War II and open the vessel as a museum ship.
In March of 1948 the LST was sold to the Wisconsin & Michigan Steamship Co. and converted to an automobile carrier in New Orleans.
She is the 3rd USS ship to lay up during the season most likely due to lack of cargo.

In September we flew to Las Vegas to meet with his old shipmates from the LST 918.
We were two of the more than 2,000 who came for the USS LST reunion, the ninth for the national organization; only the second one for his ship.
Since the first one, two years ago, one diligent researcher was able to locate about 60 men of the ship's roster from 1944, and they were happy to be found.

From Winterborn the battalion moved to Weymouth and boarded four LCTs and one LST on the evening of 18 June for the choppy ride across the Channel.
Due to one of the worst storms in twenty years which destroyed the Mulberry floating docks, the battalion could not disembark at Omaha Beach until 20-21 June, and after landing spent the next few days in an apple orchard near Bricqueville cleaning salt water-soaked equipment to prevent corrosion.
