All of the USS RICH shipmates and friends thank Joe and Alta (Podorski) for the superb job they did on the reunion.

August 1: Fully loaded, with over 200 tons of ammunition, 5 tons of rice, other supplies and many small craft in the well deck, we watched as the materials of war that remained was destroyed by the evacuating forces; then loaded 151 South Korean troops and left the area according to agreement.
The escort for the LST and the US (the LST was loaded with heavy equipment and two damaged corsairs, that was brought out on a barge by a Korean gunboat.
The planes were hoisted by the starboard crane to the port crane, then to the deck of the LST (was the USS New Jersey-BB62; two destroyers; the oiler; two mine sweepers and several South Korean gunboats.

 Recollections from the USS Satyr (ARL-23)
I reported to the USS Satyr in New Orleans, LA (June 1967) when she was just returning from mothballs.
I was assigned to the USS Satyr in July of 1967 where it was undergoing repairs.
I was on the U.S.S. Pencicola CA24 when they found out I did some carpenter work when I was a civilian they transferred me to the Satyr.

He served for a short while on the LST 436 and then joined the crew of LST 662 for the ships commissioning in April 1944.
Training was at NavTraSta Bainbridge MD. He served on the U.S.S. LST 662 and on the U.S.S. His rate was Coxswain.

Lunch was served in the wardroom of the USS Massachusetts.
I was somber as I realized that my dad could have been one of the 95 men who lost their lives on board the USS Ommaney Bay.
  He had shore duty until early 1945, when he volunteered to serve aboard the USS Mississippi, BB-41, in the Pacific with the Seventh Fleet.

 USS Satyr (ARL-23) Roster
The Satyr was my second tour in Vietnam, and my first was on board the USS Caddo Parish LST 515 from 1968 - 1969.
I was later transfered to the USS Zelima.
It is not a complete roster, and will be updated as names are made available.
