Her anchors dragged at 1200, and despite the use of both engines she was blown ashore a mile north of Baten Ko by 1315, colliding with LST 826 on the way.
In dodging INCA, NESTOR slipped nearer to the beach, and was forced to put all engines ahead one third in order to hold position on her anchor.

 Ingham/Samuel D. Ingham
Shortly afternoon Ingham detached from the convoy with USS Babbitt (DD-128) and proceeded to Reykjavik, mooring at Halfjordur on March 12th.
On the 19th she proceeded to Saboga anchorage and continued anti-submarine exercises with the submarines USS Rock (SS-274) and the USS S-13 until the 31st.
The Ingham and USS Chester T. O'Brien (DE-421) began a bombardment of the southeast portion of the island in preparation for landing a company of infantry to exterminate 40 or 50 Japanese reported on the island.

In the LST role, the submarine would carry 350 troops, although up to 500 could be carried for a five-day transit.

Upon transferred on the Commodore in 1971, I was re-assigned to the USS Josephus Daniels (DLG-27) as the Captain's and Commodore's steward.
From there I wwent to the USS Conyngham DDG-17 Spent the rest of my time there also attended Morse Code School while on Board the Conyngham I was on board the Conyngham when she went to Bath Ma.

 USS POLLUX AKS-2 and AKS-4
Shortly after reporting aboard the USS POLLUX he was promoted to CSK (SKC) because of his former military experience as a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and his longshore experience.
His career naval highlight was being a plank owner of the USS Arkansas and as Command Master Chief of the USS San Diego.
B.J. says he will be attending the USS ZELLARS reunion in Seattle from 28 Sept. through 1 October 1995 and will not be able to attend the POLLUX reunion but he will definitely make plans to attend the next reunion.

As the leading torpedoman on the USS Henry M Jackson I was given the privelage to read from the US Submarine Deck logs reoprt from WWII.
Comments: I was a storekeeper aboard the USS Howard W. Gilmore AS16 homeported in Charleston, S C from '61 to '64.
He is pretty set in his ways but after being his next door neighbor for 31 years can say he is as fine a person as ever walked the face of the earth.
