 Korean War Naval Chronology, May-August1952
USS Murrelet (AM 372) and USS Symbol (AM 123), while conducting a clearance sweep in vicinity of Songjin, were taken under fire by enemy shore batteries of estimated 75 mm and 155 mm.
USS Perkins (DDR 877) came to her assistance with suppression fire and was also taken under fire at a range of 11,000 yards.
USS Orleck (DD886) and USS Doyle (DMS34), while firing at targets in the city of Chuuronjang, south of Songjin, were caught during a turn and fired on at 6,000 yards range by 75 mm to 155 mm batteries.

 USS POLLUX AKS-2 and AKS-4
Shortly after reporting aboard the USS POLLUX he was promoted to CSK (SKC) because of his former military experience as a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and his longshore experience.
His career naval highlight was being a plank owner of the USS Arkansas and as Command Master Chief of the USS San Diego.
Chuck was a FA on the POLLUX and retired in 1967 as a BTC.

Transferred to USS Estocin in Oct. 1993 and was involved in Counter Drug Operations and the Haiti Blockade.
Subsequently, I was assigned to USS Indepen- dence CVA-62 at NOB Norfolk.

The USS Chaffee set her first war cruising watch 31 May as she cleared the anti?submarine nets at the mouth of the Charleston Harbor and headed due east for the island of Bermuda.
The Chaffee, after ascertaining the USS Marlin's ability to surface, proceeded at full speed to assist the stricken SC Coming abeam of the disabled SC the Chaffee made fast to the starboard side and quickly put four submersible pumps and two handy billies to work, checking the SC's grave loss of freeboard.
She arrived Hollandia 21 November for operations in the New Guinea area screening LSTs, in gunnery and antitorpedo exercises, and on patrol at the entrance to Aitape.

After serving two years in Amarillo, Texas I received orders toreport to the USS Hopewell DD-681 and after six months on board I was advanced to Chief Machinist Mate and served in Hopewell for three years before receiving orders to Commander Destroyer Flotilla Five (CDF-5) Pearl Harbor.
Hung, a very shy and courteous man. After about six months on the LCVP Iwent back on board the Askari as we were preparing to go to Guam via the Phillipines to turn her over to the Indonesians.
After the Askari, I was transferred to the USS Greer County (LST799),which belonged to the Mine Force.

In 1995 got replica of USS M. VALLEJO for efforts to save her.
I am glad to see that someone remembers the USS Drum (SSN-677).I found out about the decommissioning fter the fact or I would have tried to attend.
I am one of the hundreds of civilians working at Mare Island when the USS Drum was under construction.

Was then assigned to the USS Odax.Served aboard the Odax until early fall of 1952 and was trasferred to Bethesda Naval Hospital.Had back operation in late November and honorably discharged on March 3, 1953.
Transferred to the USS NIMITZ (CVN-63) for their 9 month-world cruez, two months after cruiz finished I was so missing the sea life that I cross-decked to the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69) for their 6 month deployment to the Med.
Aboard the USS Hamner (DD-718), Arundle County (LST-317), Blue Ridge (LCC-1), and the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701).

Later in the war my father served aboard the Destroyer USS Ault DD-698 as a MM2 in the South Pacific leading raids on Japanese homelands and they were anchored in Tokyo Bay next the USS Missouri on Sep 2, 1945 for the formal surrender.
Dad served on the USS Kennebec from 1962 to 1964 starting his tour of duty on the ship as a deck aid and working his way up to a yeoman in the ship's office." He was undergoing chemo and hoped to attend the 2003 reunion.
Claude was a member of the USS Kennebec AO-36 Association, Kenilworth Civic Association and Knights of Columbus.

Comments: I was aboard USS LUZON at Saipan in 45, WE took all the repair gear off and went to Nagoya Japan as flag ship.
Comments: I was stationed on USS Seminole AKA 104.Commander Christie was our XO when he was transferred to USS Luzon as Commanding Officer.He was a great guy.
Comments: I was T.A.D.to the USS Luzon Diving school in 1956it was a good duty station with good food and four section liberty I loved it but I was only on her temprarly.Those were the best years of my youth.Im glad to have been there ww.

I served aboard the USS Cabildo from 1964 to 1966 as a Gunner's Mate 3rd Class.
He was a friend and shipmate of my Dad, A.F. Zupkas YNC, aboard the USS Harlan R. Dickson (DD708) during a Med cruise in the early 60’s, also participating in the Quarantine action of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
I have been proud to be a member of the USS Cabildo Association and of having been priviledged to serve aboard the USS Cabildo during the Korean Conflict but have been very disappointed in some of the comments which have recently been submitted.

List duty stations I had boot camp in San Diego, Calif. and to A school in Vallejo, Calif. I was them stationed on the USS Walke, DD723 from late 1964 until early 1968 and we made three cruises to Westpac.
Best tour was new construction and having the commissioning watch for USS McInerney, in spite of it being only 29-degrees in Bath, ME in Dec 79.
I thought I would make it to this year's reunion since the trip was originally scheduled for the week of 26 August but Bath Iron Works and SupShip, Bath decided that the week of 16 September was better since the ship builder would be nearer to completion.
