USS LST 375 was operating in the Mediterranean Theater as part of the Western Task Force for the invasion of Sicily.
On September 4, 1943, the USS LST 473 was operating as part of General Douglas MacArthur's VII Amphibious Force off the eastern coast of New Guinea.
LST 473 was one of six LSTs and four destroyers on their way to reinforce an Australian assault force east of Lae when they were attacked by 12 Japanese torpedo planes and 15 dive bombers.

The USS LST-325 from Evansville, Indiana, is expected to arrive in Louisville today around NOON after a 24-hour trip up the Ohio River.
The USS LST-325 was built at the Philadelphia Naval Yard and launched on Oct. 27, 1942.
The USS LST-325 is now permanently moored at Evansville, Indiana, and is open to the public for tours.

Shortly after reporting aboard the USS POLLUX he was promoted to CSK (SKC) because of his former military experience as a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and his longshore experience.
His career naval highlight was being a plank owner of the USS Arkansas and as Command Master Chief of the USS San Diego.
Chuck was a FA on the POLLUX and retired in 1967 as a BTC.

Was transfered for a short period in an emergency deployment to the USS Bordelon to be on the blockade of Cuba as a radioman, transfered back to the Luce afterwards.
I attended the funeral of President John F. Kennedy while in DC.My last duty was aboard the USS Salish out of Mayport Fla. We were the prime ship that fought the fires aboard the cruise ship Vi king Princess as she burned in the Carribean.
Subsequently, I was assigned to USS Indepen- dence CVA-62 at NOB Norfolk.

USS Constitution ("Old Ironsides”) is the oldest continuously operating US Naval vessel and the LST 325 is the second oldest continuously operating US Naval vessel.
In February of this year, I volunteered to be Master of LST 325 for the 2004 D-Day, 60th Anniversary Cruise to Boston, Gloucester, Massachusetts Maritime Academy (my alma mater) New Bedford and the Washington DC area.

USS LaGrange (APA-124), USS Drew (APA-162), USS Wyandot (AKA-92), USS Chilton (APA-38), USS St Marys (APA-126), USS Tazwell (APA-209), USS Suffolk (AKA-69), USS Oberon (AKA-14), USS Torrance (AKA-76), USS PCE (R) 853, and the USS Tekesta (ATF-93).
USS Natrona (APA-214) entered the United States Maritime Administration Reserve Fleet at Suisun, CA on August 26, 1958 at 1500 PDT as a Military Auxiliary.
Not a ship of the line, rather one of unassuming necessities there in the Pacific backwashes, USS Natrona (APA-214) performed well for her crew, a crew that still remembers a proud ship in all that she accomplished and does so with pride and honor.

 USS Parle
Parle was named for Ensign John Joseph Parle, who was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism during the invasion of Sicily.
Ensign Parle was Officer in Charge of small boats assigned to LST 375, and died on 17 July 1943 of wounds received in extinguishing a smoke marker pot accidentally ignited aboard a boat just prior to the assault on 9-10 July.
Unable to extinguish the fire, which might have alerted the enemy to the presence of the assault craft, he seized the marker pot with both hands and threw it over the side, receiving severe and ultimately fatal injury from smoke inhalation in the process.

1143 Commissioning Officer directed "Face inboard", stated the U.S.S. ASHLAND to be in commission and delivered the vessel to Francis J. Harris, Lieutenant Commander USNR, Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. ASHLAND, who read his orders and accepted his command with appropriate remarks.
Full report of the Baker Island operation will be submitted upon return of the task force commander to Pearl Harbor and in the interim certain recommendations are submitted in this endorsement in order that preliminary work may be accomplished at the Navy Yard, if they are approved.
In view of the importance of the design features concerned in the operation of the stern gate as reported by the basic letter, it is recommended that this correspondence be forward to the BuShips.

 LST325 Proud Voyage
When WW II ended most of the LST's were scrapped, modified, or given to Navies of other countries.
This has been a real emotional roller coaster in all our lives and it soon will be over with and I couldn't be prouder of my husband and all the other men on that ship.
You will be hearing from me again about the 10th of Jan. May God bless our ship and our crew and may He bless and keep all you healthy and safe in the new year.

You cannot imagine the emotion I felt when I went on board and the memories it brought back to me. I remembered all the men on my ship, the LST 708, in the South Pacific.
Merchant ship weather observation east of LST by 120SM- wind 9.5 knots, wind direction 250, and 2 ft waves with 1 second periods; ship on 31st parallel 180 SM west wind 13 knots, wind direction 250, and 4 ft waves with 4 second periods.
The United States LST Association members have donated over 60,000.00 to help return the ship we are very proud of that, and numerous other non members have also done the same.

I served on the USS Agerholm DD826 from 1960 to 1965.
I am a former crew member of the USS Forrestal, I would like to thank the crew for their assistance when we had the fire onboard in '67, you have a great site but a sad ending to a fine Lady.

During his naval career, Captain Piatek has served aboard USS PETROF BAY (CVE-80), USS LST-601, USS CHARLES S. SPERRY (DD697), and USS PARLE (DE-708), serving as Executive Officer in the latter.
In 1961, Captain Piatek participated in SoLant Amity as Commanding Officer of USS SUFFOLK COUNTY (LST1173).
He has, in addition, served tours of duty in Staff Communications for the Supreme Allied Commander, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, and as Training Officer and Officer in Charge of the Leadership School at Fleet Training Center, Norfolk, Virginia.
