USS James E. Kyes (DD-787) slight damage from 1 hit after receiving 60 rounds of 155 mm at a range of 8,000-12,000 yards from a shore battery near Wonsan, North Korea, 9 casualties, 19 April 1953.
USS Gurke (DD-783) slight damage from 2 hits and shrapnel from 5 near misses after receiving 150 rounds of 76-90 mm, at 6,000 to 11,000 yards, near Songjin, North Korea, 3 casualties, 25 June 1953.

Her anchors dragged at 1200, and despite the use of both engines she was blown ashore a mile north of Baten Ko by 1315, colliding with LST 826 on the way.
At 1230 NESTOR again had to maneuver to narrowly avoid a collision with LST 826, which was dragging anchor very rapidly; but in so doing, NESTOR nearly ran down ARD 27.

Was transfered for a short period in an emergency deployment to the USS Bordelon to be on the blockade of Cuba as a radioman, transfered back to the Luce afterwards.
Transferred to USS Estocin in Oct. 1993 and was involved in Counter Drug Operations and the Haiti Blockade.
Subsequently, I was assigned to USS Indepen- dence CVA-62 at NOB Norfolk.

Siege bombardment of Songjin commenced by USS Manchester (CL 83), USS Evans (DD 754), USS Sperry (DD 697) and HMNS Evertsen (DD).
USS Helena (CL 74) at Wonsan was bracketed with 104 rounds by enemy shore fire from a mobile battery.
USS Duncan (DDR 874), Brinkley Bass (DD 887), and Leonard F. Mason (DD 852) expended 1,100 rounds 5 inch ammunition at Wonsan on interdiction and counterbattery fire.

 U.S. NUCLEAR TESTING FROM PROJECT TRINITY TO THE PLOWSHARE PROGRAM
As a result of BRAVO, 21 individuals on the USS Philip and 16 on the USS Bairoko sustained lesions that were classified as beta burns, all of which healed without complications (13: 3-4).
A 6-mile towline connected the fleet tug, USS Tawasa, and the barge from which the nuclear device was suspended.
The ships of Task Force 88, in addition to the USS Norton Sound, were the antisubmarine carrier USS Tarawa, the destroyers USS Bearss and USS Warrington, the destroyer escorts USS Courtney and USS Hammerberg, the fleet oilers USS Neosho and USS Salamonie, and the seaplane tender USS Albemarle (20: 1).

The USS ORLECK DD-886 is a monument to the men and women who built her.
During World War II, USS LST 173 served in the European theater of operations moving critical supplies and men throughout the Mediterranean Sea.

 Deck Log Entries For 2001
The other ships that were at the school were th USS George (DE-697), USS Raby (DE-698), USS Marsh (DE-699), (the Marsh later went to Korea), and the USS Currier (DE-700).
It was the USS McMinville, but we didn't know when we served in it.
This is significant to me since I spent a couple of fantastic years on the USS Richard B. Anderson DD-786 and the sailors of this great ship have helped to make this monument possible.

Volunteer Mates, C/E and AB Needed for LST to Put to Sea
Plans are underway for the restored World Ward II-vintage USS LST 325 (Landing Ship, Tank) to make a commemorative D-Day voyage from her home port in Mobile, AL to Boston, MA beginning on May 24 and returning July 9.
Two Licensed Deck Officers, a Chief Engineer and an AB are still needed to make the voyage possible.
