The Japanese submarine RO-112 is sunk by the submarine USS Batfish (SS-310) in the Philippines.
The battleship USS Colorado (BB-45) is damaged by an explosion, the destroyer USS Ammen (DD-527) by a horizontal bomber and the submarine chaser SC-737 by grounding, all in the Okinawa area.

Saturday January 1, USS Fletcher DDE 445 was moored in a nest in Berth 5, Yokosuka, Japan with USS Rupertus DD851, LST 901, and USS Rogers DD876.
USS Caiman SS323 and USS Stickleback SS415 surfaced.
Fletcher was detached with USS Radford DDE 446, and Edmonds.

Was transfered for a short period in an emergency deployment to the USS Bordelon to be on the blockade of Cuba as a radioman, transfered back to the Luce afterwards.
I attended the funeral of President John F. Kennedy while in DC.My last duty was aboard the USS Salish out of Mayport Fla. We were the prime ship that fought the fires aboard the cruise ship Vi king Princess as she burned in the Carribean.
Subsequently, I was assigned to USS Indepen- dence CVA-62 at NOB Norfolk.

On 8 April 1945, she reported her position to submarine USS Tigrone & when she did not acknowledge messages sent from Tigrone the next day, it was presumed that she had headed toward Luzon Strait.
When she failed to make a transmission, USS Bang was sent to make the search and rendezvous with Snook.
The only trace that was ever found was a wheelhouse door 1969 - USS Bon Homme Richard port call Yokosuka 1974 - USS Kitty Hawk port call Gulf of Oman 1991 - Naval forces continue counter air-defensive, combat air patrols, minesweeping and maritime interception operations 1991 - USS Bunker Hill arrives at NAVBASE Yokosuka homeport.

Dresser completed LST Engine Navy Training School in Richmond, Va. becoming a First Class Machinist Mate.
He was then transferred to amphibious USS LST 1073 in the South Pacific.

 In Memory of Vets - Q to R
Walter served aboard the USS LST 272, LST 865 and APC 48 during WWII in the Pacific and the LSMR 412 during the Korean conflict.
In honor of my beloved father, who was killed in action on April 7, 1945 when the torpedo-bomber in which he was the gunner, based aboard the USS Hornet, was shot down in the East China Sea during the attack on the Japanese super-battleship Yamato during the battle for Okinawa.
He was just 22 years old, and his baby daughter was left with a daddy-sized hole in her heart that has never gone away.
