  USS Dorchester (APB-46) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
USS Dorchester (APB-46), a Benewah-class barracks ship, was the second ship of the United States Navy named for Dorchester County, Maryland, and Dorchester County, South Carolina.
Her hull classification symbol was initially to be LST-1112.
She was placed out of commission in reserve at Vancouver, Washington on 16 October 1946.

USS Eldorado (AGC-11), Vice Admiral Turner's flagship at the Iwo Jima invasion.
LSM's carrying tanks and half-tracks, and the LST's carrying the divisional artillery, were to be stationed between the Transport Area and the Line of Departure, ready to send their weapons ashore as needed and called for by the Marines.
The combination of two area air alerts occurring soon after the LST's were ordered to launch their barges, and the consequent towing alongside in rough water of the recently launched pontoon barges, resulted in drowning out their motors and radio equipment.

Shortly after reporting aboard the USS POLLUX he was promoted to CSK (SKC) because of his former military experience as a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and his longshore experience.
His career naval highlight was being a plank owner of the USS Arkansas and as Command Master Chief of the USS San Diego.
B.J. says he will be attending the USS ZELLARS reunion in Seattle from 28 Sept. through 1 October 1995 and will not be able to attend the POLLUX reunion but he will definitely make plans to attend the next reunion.

U.S.S. Cobia, Batfish, Ling, Lionfish, Torsk, Becuna, Cod, Pampanito, Croaker, Silversides, Clamagor, Requim, and U.S.S. Marlin.(6) With the exception of the Marlin, a small submarine designed for costal operations in the 1950's, all the above ships were of the World War II era.
The aircraft carrier U.S.S. Lexington was preserved in Texas, (10) the heavy cruiser U.S.S. Salem, (11) in the yard of her birth in Massachusetts.
The heavy cruiser U.S.S. Des Moines rests at the former Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, this cruiser, along with her sisters were the largest heavy cruisers built by the United States and the only ones mounting automatic eight inch guns in their class.

Comments: I enjoy, being on the USS Ranger in the supply dept, S-8 div the only that i didn't like was the 121 days out to sea, I would do it all over again, If i had a chance.
The ship I was on was the USS Walton DE-361 and I was a RM2 and later made RM1 while I was still aboard and over in WESTPAC.
Especially considering our replacement...the USS Constellation, or USS Constipation as we were so fond of calling her.

 DAILY CHRONOLOGY OF COAST GUARD HISTORY: OCTOBER
1943-Coast Guard-manned USS LST-203 was stranded in Southwest Pacific but there were no casualties.
The Coast Guardsmen christened their prize-of-war USS Eastbreeze and placed a prize crew on board.
The prize crew was commanded by LT Curtiss Howard and consisted of 36 men, including some from Southwind.
