  USS Arizona (1858) - Wikipedia
The first USS Arizona was an iron hulled side-wheel steamer in the United States Navy.
She was renamed Caroline and served as a blockade runner for the Confederate States of America until Union forces recaptured her in October 1862.
In any case on October 28, 1862, the side-wheeler was operating under a "...provisional register of the English steamer Caroline..." as she steamed from Havana with a cargo of munitions to be delivered to Mobile.

Lackawanna took her first prize, Neptune, 14 June after a long chase in which the 200-ton Glasgow ship had jettisoned her cargo trying to escape.
William Reynolds in command, Lackawanna sailed for the South Atlantic 4 August, transited the Straits of Magellan 9 November, and arrived Honolulu 9 February 1867.
She operated in the Pacific, primarily in the Hawaiian islands and along the coast of California and Mexico until she arrived at Mare Island for decommissioning 10 February 1871.

The first two ships predate both the territory and state of Arizona, but within the region of northern Mexico known as la Pimería Alta ("the Upper Pima Country") was a district called variously "Arizonac," "Arissona," or "Arizona." La Pimería Alta was divided into the Mexican state of Sonora and the American territory-cum-state of Arizona.
The second USS Arizona was a 3850-ton steam frigate launched in October 1865 as USS Neshamny[?].
On March 4, 1913, Congress authorized the construction of the USS Arizona (BB-39), a Pennsylvania-class battleship.

 California Naval History: The Pacific Squadron of 1861-1866
The force in the Pacific remained unchanged in 1862 with the exception that the WYOMING was detached and sent to the East Indies and Commodore J. Montgomery was succeeded by Rear Admiral Charles E. Bell.
The USS SHUBRICK was then on duty on the northern coast and came to the attention of the public on account of the difficulty over the customhouse at Port Townsend, Washington territory.
The USS CYANE was the oldest of the squadron of the 1860's and although she was put out of commission after thirty-four years service, she was not sold until she had reached the half century mark.

 A Chronological History
January 31, 1862 - By the time General U. Grant, in command of the Federal Army of the West, was prepared to advance up the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers in 1862, seven river gunboats were available to participate in the campaign, and a number of others were in the process of construction at St. Louis.
July 17-18, 1862 - Twenty-eight U.S. Marines and sailors from the USS Grey Cloud, under 1/Lt. George Collier captured or destroyed a steamer and 2 schooners rumored to be loaded with cotton, and destroyed telegraphic communications between Pascagoula and Mobile.
The U.S. Marines on the USS Lackawanna were able to furnish substantial protection to their ship during its fight with the Tennessee by effective delivery of small-arms fire through the gun ports of the enemy vessel.

 USS Kanawha
Assigned to the Gulf Blockading Squadron, the new gunboat arrived off Pass a l'Outre, La., 13 February and a week later was ordered to take station o~ Mobile, Ala., where she soon distinguished herself for vigilance.
Lackawanna and Genessee then headed in to finish the task with their 150-pounders, but before they got in range, the daring tug managed to refloat Alice and escaped with her into Mobile Bay.
She captured Mary Ellen of Montreal 3 January 1865 as the schooner tried to run into Velasco, Tex. She remained on blockade duty until after the end of the war and was ordered north 27 May. Kanawha decommissioned 5 July and was sold at New York 13 June 1866.

USS Octorara, a 981-ton "Double-Ender" side-wheel gunboat built at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, New York, was commissioned in February 1862.
Damaged on 28 June 1862, while attempting to steam upriver past the Confederate fortress at Vicksburg, Octorara was en route to Baltimore, Maryland, for repairs when, on 24 July she captured the blockade runner Tubal Cain.

Upon the capture of her, he said, the Navy Department was determined to risk everything and he sent the "Lackawanna" there as being the fleetest steamer in the Gulf.
He, Captain Marchand, was to allow no outside considerations to influence him in the vigorous persecution of this particular duty, and he was on no account to leave his station and give chase to any vessel that was not in all probability the one so coveted.
The "Lackawanna" arrived off Galveston March 11th and Captain Marchand took charge of the Squadron on the ensuing 15th.

Lackawanna rammed into the Confederate ship at full speed but, said Farragut, "the only perceptible effect on the ram was to give her a heavy list." A shot from Manhattan's 15-inch gun, however, made a greater impression on those on board Tennessee.
