The Makassar Strait was a different class carrier and later was assigned to other duties to avoid operational conflicts.
CVE pilots flew as many as four long support missions every day, which said Rear Admiral Durgin, "meant nine hours in the air of constant flying and fighting." "That's too much," he added.
As is shown in the Command Section of CVE 21 the entire Navigation Section, including the Officers, were in total made a part of the CVE 106 crew until the end of the War.

USS S-26 (SS-131) was lost on 24-Jan-1942 with the loss of 46 officers and men when it was sunk after ramming by USS PC-460 in the Gulf of Panama, 14 miles west of San Jose Light.
USS Cochino (SS-345) was lost on 26-Aug-1949 when it was sunk in Norwegian Sea after fire, one man from Cochino and 6 men from USS Tusk were lost in the rescue operation.
USS Tang (SS-306) was lost on 25-Oct-1944 with the loss of 83 officers and men when it was sunk in north end of Formosa Strait in vicinity of Turnabout Island.

 USS Makassar Strait (CVE 91)
Decommissioned on August 9, 1946, the MAKASSAR STRAIT was placed in the Pacific Reserve Fleet, Tacoma.
The ship was re-classified CVU 91 on June 12, 1955, and was disposed of as a target in 1958.
MAKASSAR STRAIT transferred her air squadron to SHIPLEY BAY (CVE 85) at Kerama Retto 7 May and departed later that day for Guam where she arrived the 11th.

Gene boarded the U.S.S. Makassar Strait in May of 1944.
The U.S.S. Makassar Strait was an escort aircraft carrier, which had recently been built by the Kaiser Shipyards at Vancouver, Washington.
In January 1947, he joined the Naval Reserve Unit in Fargo, met the girl he was going to marry, and a few years later found himself on the USS Haven (AH-12) off of Inchon, South Korea, but that’s another story and another war.

On 26 October, with the installation of new CIC equipment, O'Flaherty was made a unit of Escort Division 64, formed as a hunter-killer group with Corregidor (CVE-58) to check out reported enemy submarine movements between Pearl Harbor and California.
Later she operated with Makassar Strait (CVE-91) and with Wake Island (CVE-65) in similar operations.
As a unit of TG 52.1, Destroyer Division 120, she screened the Amphibious Support Force comprised of CVE task units.

U.S.A. : The USN's nonrigid airship K-111 operating in conjunction with the escort aircraft carrier USS Makassar Strait (CVE-91) off San Diego, California, demonstrates the feasibility of refuelling and replenishing airships from aircraft carriers.
In this operation that lasted 72.5 hours, K-111's crew was relieved every 12 hours and its engines were operated continuously.
Heavy cruisers USS Los Angeles and Chicago launched.
