We are seeking information on the USS McCord and her crews.
I was the one that was operated on for Appendicitis aboard the USS McCord in March of 1944.
My Dad, Grover Clayton Turney, was stationed on USS McCord DD534 from the time she was commissioned, until the war was over.

USS McCord (DD-534) was a World War II -era Fletcher class destroyer destroyer in the service of the United States Navy, named after Commander Frank C. McCord.
McCord, departing San Diego, California 27 November 1943, joined the Pacific Fleet in time for operations in the Marshall Islands and Marianas, and remained in continuous action through the Palau, Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa campaigns.
McCord at first screened the minesweepers as they cleared the passages into the 388-square-mile lagoon and then screened the bombardment group as Engebi Island, containing the Atoll’s only airfield, was secured, 17– 18 February.

I went aboard the U.S.S. Providence in Oct of 1966 and stayed on her untill I was discharged from the Navy in Feb. 1970.
Upon transferred on the Commodore in 1971, I was re-assigned to the USS Josephus Daniels (DLG-27) as the Captain's and Commodore's steward.
From there I wwent to the USS Conyngham DDG-17 Spent the rest of my time there also attended Morse Code School while on Board the Conyngham I was on board the Conyngham when she went to Bath Ma.

Murdo Ross is related to David McCord of Derry, son of the Patriarch William McCord who came to Pennsylvania ca.1720 and who helped found the Derry Presbyterian Church in Derry (Hershey) PA in 1724.
John McCord reported to have arrived at Cape Cod, MA with the Sir Charles Clinton party of 25 people from Northern Ireland that then went on to settle in New York.
McCord is the most famous of the private forts in America in the French and Indian War.

Lieutenant Commander Black was the executive officer of the USS BENSON (DD-421) in 1940 and commanding officer of the USS JACOB JONES (DD-130) in 1941.
Most of it was spent leading the cruisers USS BREMERTON (CA-130), 15 to 30 May 1953, and USS ST. PAUL (CA-73), 30 May to 1 June, around like a great Dane on a leash, but at night we had the opportunity of firing harassing and interdiction missions at targets on the beach.
The USS HIGBEE (DD-806) and the BLACK were, in mid March 1965, assigned to Task Group 71.1 and were the first United States warships to partake in the infiltration surveillance mission.
