The first USSMeredith (DD–165) was a Wickes class destroyer in the United States Navy during the World War I.
Meredith was laid down 26 June 1918 by Fore River Shipbuilding Company, Quincy, Massachusetts; launched 22 September 1918; sponsored by Mrs.
Decommissioned 28 June 1922, Meredith remained at Philadelphia until, in accordance with the London Naval Treaty, she was sold for scrapping 29 September 1936.

USS Bannock ATF 81 Just across the midship area of the 83' patrol boat is the stern, and just over the bow, is the overturned bow of the USSMeredith, DD 726 after hitting a mine on 06/08/44, and a near miss by a bomb on 06/09/44.
The near miss finished her off, and men from the Bannock's salvage and repair crew (Contrbutor's Dad, Byron Feagin included) went into the sea as she sank.
