USS Missouri was used for a reenactment of the Japanese surrender in the 1977 movie MacArthur starring Gregory Peck.
Missouri is not eligible for designation as a National Historic Landmark, even though she is the last completed U.S. battleship and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 14 May 1971 for hosting the signing of the instrument of Japanese surrender that ended World War II.
Missouri joined the fast battleships of TF 58 in bombarding the southeast coast of Okinawa 24 March 1945, an action intended to draw enemy strength from the west coast beaches that would be the actual site of invasion landings.

The USS Missouri is entirely operated by the USS Missouri Memorial Association, a non-profit group whose sole purpose is to restore, preserve and present the USS Missouri for people to visit and enjoy.
The official story is that the USS Jarrett's Phalanx engaged the USS Missouri's chaff (a countermeasure against missiles - chaff is basically strips of tinfoil; they're fired into the air away from the ship and distract the incoming missile) and that some stray rounds struck the Missouri.

Missouri and Wisconsin saw action during the Persian Gulf War in 1991, but the Pentagon later determined that the ships were prohibitively expensive, and they were decommissioned in the early 1990s.
Missouri did two tours of duty in Korea, from September 1950 to March 1951 and September 1952 to March 1953, providing gunfire support for UN ground forces on the peninsula.
In 1947, Missouri sailed for Rio de Janeiro, where the Rio Treaty was signed on her decks and President Harry S. Truman embarked for his return to the United States.

The USS Missouri (BB-63) is a United States Navy battleship, notable as both the last battleship to be built by the United States, and as the site of the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II.
The Missouri was deployed during the Korean War in September, 1950 and conducted shore bombardment around Samchok on September 15 before becoming part of the escort for the Valley Forge and conducting further bombardments in October (Chonjin and Tanchon) and December (Hungnam).
The vessel was donated to the Missouri Memorial Association in 1996 and transferred to Hawaii in 1998, where she officially joined the Battleship Row memorial in Pearl Harbor on January 29, 1999.

She was launched on 20 January 1950 to clear the dock for repairs to USS Missouri (BB-63) after her grounding.
In May or June 1956, Kentucky's bow was removed and transported on a large crane barge from Newport News, Virginia, where she had been towed, back to Norfolk Naval Shipyard, to be used in the repair of USS Wisconsin (BB-64), which had been damaged in a collision with USS Eaton (DDE-510) on 6 May 1956.
The keel of Kentucky (BB-66), an Iowa-class battleship, was laid at Norfolk Navy Yard, Portsmouth, Virginia, on 6 December 1944.

The USS Wisconsin was the last of the four Iowas to be activated, and she was re-commissioned on 22 October 1988.
