Neptune; T. Neptune (ARC–2) was built for the Maritime Commission by Pusey and Jones Corp., Wilmington, Del. Completed in February 1946, she was launched as SS William H. Bullard, M.
Absent from her homeport of Norfolk for extended periods, Neptune steamed the Atlantic from the Caribbean to the St. Lawrence and beyond, living up to her motto of “Find it, Fix it, Hide it.” Since her commissioning she has been involved in more than fifty cable laying and repair projects.
Neptune’s varied work took her to the Pacific in 1954, 1957, 1960, and 1964.

USS Monterey, At Sea - Three ships led by Commander, Destroyer Squadron (COMDESRON) 24 left the east coast June 5 and 6 to participate with naval forces from the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Australia, France and Spain in Neptune Warrior, a coalition course held in the North Atlantic.
Neptune Warrior is normally held three times a year and is open to allied navies with assets available to participate.

HMS Neptune (1797 at Deptford) was a 98-gun 2nd rate ship of the line which fought at the Battle of Trafalgar.
After the battle, it was the Neptune that towed the crippled Victory, bearing Nelson's body, back to Gibraltar.
Neptune served as the flag ship for Rear Admiral Sir Alexander Cochrane leading the fleet that captured the French colony of Martinique in the West Indies in 1809.

 USS Neptune III
The third Neptune (AC-8), a collier, was laid down by the Maryland Steel Co., Sparrows Point, Md. 23 March 1910 launched 21 January 1911; and placed in service with a merehant crew at Norfolk Navy Yard 20 September 1911, Master F. Horton, Naval Auxiliary Service, in command.
Neptune sailed for home 28 June, arriving New York 11 July and again resumed service with the Train, Atlantic Fleet, making one voyage to the Caribbean, 12 July to 27 August, and then operated off the Atlantic Coast, delivering coal to ports in Chesapeake Bay through the end of the war.
Neptune made another coaling voyage to the west coast before departing Philadelphia 27 August for an eleven month eruise as part of the Train, Pacific Fleet.

Neptune and Myer could "twist" -- sit dead in the water and turn using one screw astern and the other forward -- as well as use the screws in addition to the rudder for low speed maneuvering.

USS Clyde, an 294-ton (burden) side-wheel steam gunboat, was built in 1861 at Glasgow, Scotland.
In the Spring of 1863, under the name Neptune, she was employed as a blockade runner, making one successful voyage in and out of Mobile, Alabama, in May. On 14 June 1863, while attempting another trip to Mobile, she was captured by USS Lackawanna.
USS Clyde was decommissioned at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in August 1865 and sold in October.
