The fourth New York (CA-2) was an armored cruiser commissioned in 1893, in action in the Spanish-American War, renamed to Saratoga in 1911, renamed Rochester in 1917, decommissioned in 1933, and scuttled in 1941.

During her World War I service, New York was frequently visited by royal and other high-ranking representatives of the Allies, and she was present for one of the most dramatic moments of the war, the surrender of the German High Seas Fleet in the Firth of Forth 21 November 1918.
New York sailed 21 November for the West Coast, arriving San Pedro 6 December for gunnery training in preparation for amphibious operations.
New York prepared at Pearl Harbor for the planned invasion of Japan, and after war's end, made a voyage to the West Coast returning veterans and bringing out their replacements.

In 1857, after news of a false rebellion spread, the government sent troops in the "Utah expedition" to quell the supposed rebellion and to replace Brigham Young as territorial governor with Alfred Cumming.
Today, new communities are being constructed in Utah County (Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs) and old, previously tiny communities (such as Ivins, Herriman, and Cedar Hills) are seeing phenomonal growth.

Like her sisters in the Mediterranean, USS CHARLES F. HUGHES was ordered to the States at the beginning of 1945 for refit and training in preparation for the final assault on Japan.
She would reach New York in January and, aside from a single convoy assignment back to the Mediterranean, was able to leave for the Pacific by early summer.
USS CHARLES F. HUGHES returned to the United States and was placed out of commission and in reserve at Charleston South Carolina on March 18, 1946.

It's namesake USS Lexington CV-16, after a distinguished career, was stationed in Pensacola, FL for many years and was "the" carrier that the Navy used for training pilots to land on aircraft carriers.

The New York class were the first U.S. Navy battleships armed with 14-inch guns, and the last to be built with intermediate weight side armor, coal-fired boilers and more than four main battery turrets.
In the mid-1930s, New York and Texas were transferred to the Atlantic where they were to spend most of the rest of their active service.
New York saw her final employment as a target in 1946-48, while Texas became a memorial, a mission she still performs as the last surviving U.S. World War I era battleship.

Husband E. Kimmel was born in Henderson, Kentucky, on 26 February 1882 and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1904.
Before reaching flag rank, he served in several battleships, commanded two destroyer divisions, a destroyer squadron and USS New York (BB-34).
He also held a number of important positions on flag staffs and in the Navy Department, and completed the senior course at the Naval War College.
