USS Oklahoma (BB-37), a Nevada-class battleship[?] was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for the 46th state.

OKLAHOMA capsized and 429 young sailors and marines perished.
Today, a concerted effort by the Oklahoma City Council of the Navy League and the remaining 135 members of the Oklahoma Survivors Association appears to have borne fruit; a memorial honoring those that perished, and those that survived, has been authorized, designed, sited and fund-raising, to make it all happen, is beginning.
The Oklahoma City Navy League and Tucker McHugh, Commander, USNR (Ret) will be beating the bushes, knocking on doors, spreading the word (as best we can) that these elderly gentlemen, formerly of the USS OKLHOMA (BB-37), should have, must have, a memorial to their shipmates.

 In relationship to USS Oklahoma's conditions and her barbettes, marine explorer Bob Ballard did find one of the turrets belonging to the Bismarck- being upside down on the bottom.
The first was written by one of the sailors who was trapped inside Oklahoma as she rolled and the second by a salvage diver who worked on righting and raising the Oklahoma.
Raymer, the diver, mentions that the bottom was pretty mucky; they had to spread coral out along where Oklahoma was going to roll as she was righted to prevent her from miring in the mud.

On Dec. 7, 1941, the Oklahoma was moored in Battleship Row at Ford Island alongside the USS Maryland (BB 46).
