 USN Ships--USS Osborne (Destroyer # 295, later DD-296)
During the next decade Osborne was primarily engaged in fleet operations in the U.S. East Coast and Caribbean areas, but in 1925-1926 she made a year-long deployment to western Europe and the Mediterranean Sea.
USS Osborne was stricken from the list of Naval vessels in October 1930 and sold for scrapping in January 1931.
USS Osborne was named in honor of Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Weedon E. Osborne, USN (Dental Corps) (1892-1918), who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for "extraordinary heroism" during the Battle of Belleau Wood, 6 June 1918.

Osborne (DD-295) was laid down 23 September 1919 at Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corp., Squantum, Mass.; launched 29 December 1919; co-sponsored by Mrs.
Osborne decommissioned 1 May 1930 with her crew transferring to the newly recommissioned Taylor (DD-94).
In aceordanee with the agreements reached at the London Naval Disarmament Confernce of 1930, she was struck from the Navy List 22 October 1930 and sold for scrap 17 January 1931.

LTJG Osborne was the first American naval officer to die on land in World War I. He was only 25.
A ship of the United States Navy, the USS Osborne (DD 295) was named in his memory, and commissioned on 17 May 1920.

 Action Report: 26 October 1942
LAMSON and MAHAN were refueled and dispatched on special duty in connection with the attack on Japanese patrol craft stationed between the Gilberts and Ellice Islands.
At daylight October 23, 1942 (Zone minus 12) rendezvous was effected with SABINE and STACK in latitude 12°-30' S., longitude 175°-00' E., and all vessels of the task force were refueled to capacity.
Planes of this search made contact with two enemy forces; one comprising 2 BB, 1 CA, 7 DD at 170 miles on bearing 275° T; the other, 2 CV at 200 miles on bearing 300° T. The contact reports were in proper order giving latitude, longitude, composition, course, and speed.

Lieutenant Weedon E. Osborne (13 November 1892 – 6 June 1918) was an officer in the United States Navy during World War I.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Osborne was appointed a Lt. (jg) and a dental surgeon in the Navy 8 May 1917.
He was assigned duty with the 6th Regiment Marines 26 March 1918.

 The Saga of S.S. Masaya
She was Originally christened on 16 February 1920 as the USS Dale DD-290.
She along with the Putnmam (DD-287), Worden (DD-288), and Osborne (DD-295) were sold for scrap to Standard Fruit Company of New Orleans.
These are two of the 58 destroyers sold by the Government in order to reduce the 293,000 tons in the destroyer category to the maximum 150,000 tons allowed by the London Naval Treaty.

She was named for Rear Admiral Benjamin F. Isherwood.
She was sold 17 January 1931, and scrapped in 1934 by her purchasers.

Commander Spruance served a tour of duty at the Electrical Division at the Bureau of Engineering (1921-1924), and commander of the DALE (DD-290), followed as assistant chief of staff to Admiral Philip Andrews, commanding U.S. Naval Forces in European waters (1924-1925) on the cruiser PITTSBURGH (ACR-4).
His subsequent sea duties included command of the OSBORNE (DD-295) in European and Mediterranean waters (1925-1926), executive officer of the MISSISSIPPI (BB-41) with the Battle Fleet (1929-1931), and later (1938-1940) her skipper.
USS Spruance (DD-963) was named in his honor.
