The frigate USS Constitution, also known as "Old Ironsides," which is the oldest commissioned warship in the world, and the Fletcher-class destroyer USS Cassin Young are displayed there as representatives of the vessels built and repaired at the shipyard.
USS Cassin Young Built by Bethlehem Steel Corporation in San Pedro, California, and commissioned on December 31, 1943, the USS Cassin Young (DD-793) was at the forefront of the naval offensive against the Japanese during World War II.
USS Cassin Young, a National Historic Landmark administered by the National Park Service, is located at Pier 1 in Boston Naval ShipYard, (Boston National Historical Park) on the south side of Chelsea St. in the Chalrestown area of Boston.

USS Austin was the first ship named for Steven F. Austin, a Texas patriot.
She was subsequently sold to Tripoli, renamed Mastico, and used by the Barbary Pirates based there to capture the USS Philadelphia on October 31, 1803.
Intrepid was captured by USS Enterprise on December 23 of that year and was placed under the command of Lieutenant Stephen Decatur.

The first Plymouth, a sloop-of-war built by the Boston Navy Yard, departed Boston 3 April 1844 for the Mediterranean, Comdr.
Following service on the east coast, Plymouth departed New York, 13 February 1848, for the Far East, returning to Norfolk from the East Indies, 29 January 1851.
Plymouth was at Norfolk for repairs during the secession crises in the winter of 1860-1861.

Upon transferred on the Commodore in 1971, I was re-assigned to the USS Josephus Daniels (DLG-27) as the Captain's and Commodore's steward.
From there I wwent to the USS Conyngham DDG-17 Spent the rest of my time there also attended Morse Code School while on Board the Conyngham I was on board the Conyngham when she went to Bath Ma.

Charles Vernon Gridley was born 24 November 1844 in Logansport, Inc., and was appointed to the Naval Academy in 1860.
Gridley and her companions sent up smoke and flare signals to guide the intrepid flyers and with the help of the surface ships NC-4 was able to land in the dense fog at the Azores 17 May 1919.
Subsequently Gridley participated in the search for NC-1, forced down in the fog, and then acted as guard ship on the last leg of NC 4's historic flight, which was completed at Plymouth.

The Secretary of the Navy at the request of the Joint Chiefs of Staff early in 1944 established the Air-Sea Rescue Agency, an inter-department and inter-agency body, for study and improvement of rescue work with the Commandant of Coast Guard as head.
The shoal where she struck was about three miles west-southwest of the Gurnet Point Station (Second District), and the crew of the station were not sure she was aground until about 10 o’clock.
She proved to be the schooner Milton and had mistaken the channel entrance to Plymouth Harbor.
