POLLACK has a length of 279 feet; a waterline midships of 25 feet; a standard displacement of 3750 tons surfaced and 4300 tons submerged; an operating depth in excess of 400 feet; and a maximum speed in excess of 20 knots.
POLLACK was greeted at Fort Lauderdale by the local natives, tourists, and the Fort Lauderdale Chapter of the Navy League, whose members proved to be quite valuable as recreational guides.
POLLACK was decommissioned and stricken from the Naval Vessel Register in ceremonies at the Naval Shipyard in Mare Island, California on 1 March 1989.

The second POLLACK (SSN-603) was laid down by the New York Shipbuilding Corp., Camden, N.J., 14 March 1960; launched 17 March 1962; sponsored by Mrs.
POLLACK reported to Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet for duty, and became a unit of Submarine Squadron 4, homeported in Charleston, S.C. After shakedown in the Caribbean, she underwent a six-month evaluation as an antisubmarine warfare weapon.
On 1 March 1968, POLLACK's homeport was changed to Norfolk and she became a unit of Submarine Squadron 10, the first all nuclear attack submarine squadron in the Navy.

The USS Plunger SSN-595 keel was laid March 2, 1960.
Initially homeported in Pearl Harbor as part of Submarine Division 71, she served as the Submarine Force Flagship in 1963 and was transferred to San Diego in 1973 to join Submarine Squadron Three.
The USS Plunger SSN-595 was the third of what came to be known as the world's "first modern, quiet, deep-diving fast attack submarines, "integrating such advanced features as a hydrodynamically shaped hull, a large bow-mounted sonar array, advanced sound-silencing features, and an integrated control/attack center with the proven S5W reactor plant.

Armament: 4 x 21 inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes USS Jack (SSN-605), a Permit class submarine, was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for the jack, any young pike, green pike or pickerel, or large California rockfish.
The contract to build her was awarded to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in New Hampshire on 13 March 1959 and her keel was laid down on 16 September 1960.

Originally named the Thresher class, the Permit class was renamed after the tragic sinking of the the USS Thresher in April of 1963, with a complete loss of life.
Permit and the boats that followed were the world's deepest diving subs until the Russian caught up with the Alfa, though they never surpassed that class in numbers similar to the Permit.
Once the LA's began to dominant the SSN patrols, the Permit class were modified for Spec Ops insertions and coastal ocean patrols.
