PURDY, as the man for whom she was named, had proved herself to be made of the stuff that has established and maintained the valorous tradition of the United States Navy.
During her deployment Purdy anchored in most of the major ports of the Mediterranean, and in many of the minor ones—Cannes, France, Iraklion, on the island of Crete; Istanbul, Turkey; Naples and Liverne, Italy; and Catanio, Sicily, were a few of the ports that DD-734 visited.
USS Purdy (DD-734) was decommissioned on 2 July 1973.
