  Commodore John Barry
On April 7, 1776, just four months after he had taken command, Captain Barry provided a necessary boost to the moral of the continental forces just as he would do so many times when it was needed most: he captured the British ship, Edward, and her cargo - the first American war prize.
Barry's victories at sea (beginning 7th April 1776) were many and important to the morale of the American people as well as to the successful prosecution of the war.
The USS BARRY (DD-933) is the centerpiece of the naval museum at the Washington Navy Yard, and the new USS JOHN BARRY (DDG-52) carries the name of Commodore John Barry on the high seas today.

USS Raleigh was one of thirteen ships that the Continental Congress authorized for the United States Navy in 1775.
James Hackett, Hill, and Paul at Portsmouth, N.H., under the supervision of Thomas Thompson, was authorized by the Continental Congress on 13 December 1775 and the keel was laid on March 21, 1776 and launched on May 21, 1776.

The second Trumbull -- one of the 13 frigates authorized by the Continental Congress on 13 December 1775 -- was probably laid down in March or April 1776 at Chatham, Connecticut, by John Cotton and was launched on 5 September 1776.
In 1776 only thirty-one Continental cruisers of all classes were in commission, and this number was swiftly diminished by capture and blockade until in 1782 no more than seven ships flew the flag of the American Navy.

Daniel Waters, born on 20 June 1731 at Charlestown, Mass., was one of the “minute men” who engaged the British at the onset of the Revolutionary War.
Later placed in charge of a small gunboat during the American investment of Boston, Waters was appointed by General George Washington to command the schooner Lee on 20 January 1776.

Did you serve aboard the USS Ranger,if so when?: Yes, with VA-196 out of Whidbey Is Comments: It was during the 1970 cruise or late 69..I'll have to look it up..
My son Derek served on the USS RANGER from 1990 to 1993, and I was able to make "The Last Ride" tiger cruise from Hawaii back to San Diego with him in July of 1993.
