 USS PICUDA (SS-382) - SHIP'S HISTORY
USS Picuda, in a wolf-pack with USS Spadefish (SS-411) and USS Redfish (SS-395), departed Pearl Harbor for her third war patrol on 23 July 1944 in waters of the Luzon Straits between Formosa and Luzon.
USS Picuda sent 9,433-ton passenger-cargoman "Mayasan Maru" to the bottom of the sea on 17 November in the area southwest of Nagasaki.
USS Picuda again entered the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for inactivation on 27 March 1946 and was towed by a fleet tug to New London/Groton on 19 September 1946.

USS NAUTILUS (SSN 571), CDR William R. Anderson, operated in the Greenland Sea and Arctic Ocean.
USS GURNARD (SSN 662), CDR Cliff A. Wiese (Jeffrey Gossett and Bob Vachon) and USS PINTADO (SSN 672), CDR Richard P. "Dick" Vidosic (Dr. Greg Dreyer) became 3rd pair of submarines to conduct rendezvous at the North Pole.
USS PUFFER (SSN 652), CDR Richard A. "Rick" Wright (Alan Hayashida) and USS SAN JUAN (SSN 751), CDR David L. Thomas (Jeffrey Gossett) conducted joint operations in the Arctic.

 USS KIDD Veterans Memorial -- Ship's History -- USS KIDD (DD-661)
The USS KIDD (DD-661) is a Fletcher-class destroyer, the six hundred sixty-first destroyer built by the United States Navy.
Therefore, prior to her departure from Philadelphia, the Navy was contracted to remount two twin 40mm gun mounts forward of the bridge in place of the "hedgehog" anti-submarine projectors which had been added in the 1950s.
Today, USS KIDD is moored in the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the centerpiece of the Louisiana Naval War Memorial.

The first Redfish (SS-395) was laid down 9 September 1943 by Portsmouth Navy Yard, Portsmouth, N.H., launched 27 January 1944, sponsored by Miss Ruth Roper, and commissioned i2 April 1944, Comdr.
Departing Saipan 1 December, she combined with Sea Devil the night of 8-9 to damage heavily the Japanese aircraft carrier Hayataka, putting that enemy ship out of action for the remainder of the war.
Decommissioned 27 June 1968 at San Diego, she was struck from the Navy list 30 June, and sunk as a target.

Repaired, refueled, and replenished, BANG departed Midway on 25 October and returned to the same patrol area, but with SHAD (SS-235) and REDFISH (SS-395) as the other subs in the wolfpack.
Between midnight and 0300 on the 23rd, all three subs conducted coordinated attacks on the convoy.

He served in submarines from 1962-1964 aboard USS Chopper (SS 342) and from 1964 to 1966 aboard USS Redfish (SS 395).
Perris was in the Navy from 1968 to 1977 and was assigned to USS Bonefish (SS 582) from 1970-1974.

During the Korean War he served on the cruiser USS Bremerton (CA-130) and was a military adviser aboard Korean ships.

Neal Sever best known for the chilling accounts of World War II’s USS Barb (SS-220)’s in the non fiction novel “Thunder Below,” is one of the eight Sailors to Conduct the only ground combat operation on the Japanese homeland in World War II.
These high profile events serve to let people know that we’re here, but their effectiveness is limited by the fact that they are short-lived exposures.

During World War II he was attached to the submarine SS-30 and USS Kraken (SS-370) and made a total of ten war patrols in the Aleutian Islands and in the Southwest Pacific.
From 1952 to 1954 he was executive officer of USS ZELLARS (DD-777); and from 1954 to 1956, operations officer on the staff of Commander Training Command, U.S. Atlantic Fleet.
He served in the USS ENDICOTT (DMS-35) after receiving his commission from July 1950 to October 1952, during which time the ENDICOTT was engaged in heavy shore bombardment and mine sweeping operations in Korean waters.

That evening, Plaice (SS-390) confirmed Sea Devil's hits, but was unable to provide a damage estimate.
Later reports identified the damaged warship as the aircraft carrier Junyo, which was subsequently damaged further by Redfish (SS-395).
Junyo remained in the repair yard through the end of the war.
