USS Lassen, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer In naval terminology, a destroyer is a fast and maneuverable yet long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet or battle group and defend them against smaller, short-range attackers (originally torpedo boats, later submarines and aircraft).
USS (FFG-49), an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, is a ship of the United States Navy named for Lieutenant Robert G. Bradley (1921–1944), who was awarded the Navy Cross posthumously for his heroism on USS Princeton (CVL-23) during the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
USS Gary (FFG-51), an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, is a ship of the United States Navy, named for Commander Donald A. Gary (1903–1977), who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism during the fires on USS Franklin (CV-13) on 19 March 1945.

The flaming Chief symbolizes the damage inflicted upon USS PRINCETON by an enemy air attack during the battle of Leyte Gulf and the resulting fires which eventually claimed the life of Lieutenant Bradley as he valiantly led a crew in the effort to extinguish the flames and save the ship.
Robert Graham Bradley was born in Washington D.C. on 26 September 1921.
Bradley had repeatedly risked his life, entering the most dangerous areas below decks to ascertain the extent of damage and to fight the fires blazing onboard ship.

August 18, 2003, aboard USS ROBERT G. - July 17, while on deployment in the eastern Pacific, USS Robert G. Bradley (FFG 49) assumed the role of on-scene commander for a search and rescue mission to locate nine missing crew members of a fishing vessel consumed by fire.
Bradley steamed to rendezvous with FV Costa del Sol and upon arrival, it's health care team was transferred to the fishing vessel to evaluate the condition of the survivors.
Robert G. Bradley transited to rendezvous with the Arelis to provide medical assistance to the fourth survivor.

Assigned as an escort to USS AMERICA (CV 66) in the Arabian Gulf, SIMPSON participated in two major joint exercises and qualified for the Southwest Asia Service Medal and the Kuwait Liberation Medals issued by the governments of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
In February 1997, SIMPSON completed the first FFG to FFG weapons transfer at Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Yorktown with USS ROBERT G. USS SIMPSON started 1998 enroute to the Puerto Rican Oparea for JTFEX 1-98 with the JOHN C. After completion of a successful exercise, the ship was ready for deployment.
As a midshipman, he served in USS OHIO which operated with the Atlantic Fleet in World War I. He was commissioned an Ensign in June of 1920, graduating with the class of 1921.

Group Sail 03-2, under the command of Commander, Destroyer Squadron Six, began with USS Robert G. Bradley (FFG 49) and USS Ticonderoga (CG 47) arriving on the Atlantic, Underwater Tracking and Evaluation Range (AUTEC) in the Bahamas on April 2.
The AUTEC range is located south of Nassau off the coast of Andros Island in an area called the “Tongue of the Ocean.” HSL-46 Detachment Six, flew Cutlass 472 onto RGB for the two-week exercise.

Bradley (FFG 49) conducted its second significant drug interdiction operation in the first month of its deployment to the U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command area of responsibility, disrupting the smuggling of 4.6 metric tons of narcotics from the fishing vessel Salomon.
During her six-month deployment, Robert G. Bradley worked closely with other naval and Coast Guard assets in several drug interdiction operations, resulting in the prevention of some 14 tons of cocaine from reaching the streets of the United States.
In August, the ship offloaded 14 tons of cocaine confiscated during the deployment as a result of several operations closely coordinated between Coast Guard District 11 and JIATF-S. Robert G. Bradley made several port visits in both the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean during her deployment.
