Robinson stood out of Seeadler Harbor on 28 November for Leyte Gulf where on 1 December she was detached from Destroyer Division 112 (DesDiv 112) of Destoyer Squadron 56 (DesRon 56) and reported to Destroyer Squadron 22 for duty.
Robinson, with Waller, Saufley (DD-465), Philip, and Renshaw (DD-499) was assigned to the newly formed Destroyer Division 301 of Destroyer Squadron 30 at San Diego.

Robinson cleared Noumea on 22 August and touched at Espiritu Santo, New Hebrides Islands, to rejoin other ships of her division, then arrived at Purvis Bay of Florida, Solomon Islands on the 26th.

Robinson cleared Norfolk with Destroyer Squadron 32 on 22 October 1957 and touched at Bermuda hefore arrival at Gibraltar on 31 October.

On 31 December Robinson and the five other destroyers of Destroyer Squadron 22 sailed from Seeadler Harbor in the screen for Transport Group "Able" of the Lingayen Attack Force, carrying the 27th Infantry Division for the initial landings at Lingayen Gulf, Luzon, in the Philippines.
Robinson, with Waller, Saufley, Philip, and Renshaw was assigned to the newly formed Destroyer Division 301 of Destroyer Squadron 30 at San Diego.
Robinson departed Norfolk again on 9 June 1958 on a midshipmen training cruise to La Coruna, Spain; Gotenbourg Sweden; and Hamburg, Germany, before debarking the midshipmen at Annapolis on 4 and 5 August.

USS Robinson, a 2050-ton Fletcher class destroyer, was built at Seattle, Washington.
Robinson was present during the Battle of Surigao Strait on the night of 24-25 October, firing torpedoes at the Japanese fleet during what would be the World's last battleship-to-battleship action.
Robinson remained active in the Philippines area during the rest of 1944 and the first part of 1945, taking part in amphibious operations at Mindoro in December 1944, Lingayen Gulf in January 1945, and Mindanao and Basilan in March and April.

The “swim” by Lieutenant Kinder [“Encore,” May 2004] was witnessed by myself and a number of the crew of the USS Robinson (DD-562), upon which the incident occurred.
Robinson was directed to be the flagship (under Captain Campbell, commodore) for mine-sweeping operations in the South China Sea in September 1945 after the end of hostilities.
As a matter of record, USS Dewey (DLG-14), referred to as the ship upon which the swim incident occurred, was not placed in service until her commissioning on Dec. 7, 1959.

If you are a first-timer at this web site, or have not spent serious time aboard the USS Robinson, there are some things about the names "Robinson" and "Robbie" that you should know before continuing.
She was retired from active duty in September 1943, and scrapped at the end of the war in Europe.
But this is the explanation for the "little" in the oft-used "Little Robby", and the belief that he spent his days on the mast, sometimes perched atop the surface search antenna, sometimes pacing back and forth along the signal yard, always keeping a weather eye out for incoming harm.
