USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) is one of the final vessels in the United States Navy's Oliver Hazard Perry class of guided missile frigates.
The frigate was named for Samuel B. Roberts, a Navy coxswain who was killed evacuating Marines during the battle of Guadalcanal in 1942.
Ten sailors were medevaced for injuries sustained in the blast; six returned to the Roberts in a day or so, while four burn victims were sent for treatment to a military hospital in Germany, and eventually to medical facilities in the United States.

Roberts, working with Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF South), the agency responsible for counter-drug operations in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific, was conducting routine patrols when it detected the small fishing boat by radar.
Off to a promising start, Roberts' officers and crew are enthusiastic about maintaining this pace throughout the deployment.

 USS Simpson (FFG 56)
On 18 April 1988, SIMPSON was a principle unit of Operation Praying Mantis responding to the Iranian mine attack on USS SAMUEL B. Operating in conjunction with two other Navy ships, SIMPSON was responsible for the destruction of an Iranian oil platform and sinking the Iranian Navy missile patrol combatant, JOSHAN.
In February 1997, SIMPSON completed the first FFG to FFG weapons transfer at Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Yorktown with USS ROBERT G. USS SIMPSON started 1998 enroute to the Puerto Rican Oparea for JTFEX 1-98 with the JOHN C. After completion of a successful exercise, the ship was ready for deployment.
As a midshipman, he served in USS OHIO which operated with the Atlantic Fleet in World War I. He was commissioned an Ensign in June of 1920, graduating with the class of 1921.

USS SIDES was the eighth guided missile frigate in the OLIVER HAZARD PERRY-class and the seventh "short hull" version in her class.
USS SIDES was the first ship named in honor to Admiral Sides.
