USS Sea Dog (SS-401) was a Balao-class submarine in the United States Navy.
Sea Dog was laid down on 1 November 1943 at the Portsmouth Navy Yard in New Hampshire.
Sea Dog remained based at Key West into the fall of 1955 when she was ordered to New London, Connecticut, to begin inactivation.

USS Sea Fox (SS-402), a Balao-class submarine, was a ship of the United States Navy named for the sea fox, a large shark, also called the thresher shark, which frequents the coast of Europe and the Americas.
Sea Fox was laid down on 2 November 1943 at the Portsmouth Navy Yard in Kittery, Maine; launched on 28 March 1944, sponsored by Mrs.
In mid-April, Sea Fox was off the northwest coast of Formosa where she encountered a shift in Japanese ASW tactics.

USS Sculpin (SS-191), a Sargo-class submarine, was the first ship of the United States Navy to be named for the sculpin, a spiny, large-headed, broad-mouthed, usually scaleless fish of the family Cottidae.
She then took station in the Philippine Sea north of Luzon on 10 December.
Her second patrol, 30 January to 28 February, was in the Molucca Sea, east of Sulawesi (Celebes).

Sea Fox (SS-402) was laid down on 2 November 1943 at the Portsmouth (N.H.) Navy Yard; launched on 28 March 1944; sponsored by Mrs.
On her second war patrol, 20 December 1944 to 5 February 1945, Sea Fox returned to the Nansei Shoto as a unit of TG 17.19, a coordinated attack group comprised of herself, Blueback (SS-326), and Puffer (SS-268).
Sea Fox located no survivors but found bales of sheet rubber covering the area where the ship had gone down.

Progress toward Saipan was slowed by a casualty in the bow plane rigging mechanism on the 19th- but, on the 26th, she arrived in the Marianas, and she reached Pearl Harbor on 6 May. Refit took a
month, and Sea Fox sailed on 7 June for her last war patrol.
The war ended with the completion of refit, and Sea Fox headed toward Pearl Harbor for a two-week visit prior to getting underway for postwar duty with SubRon 5 in the Philippines.

From 1950 to 1952, Wesley Leeper served aboard the USS Sea Fox (SS402), as Supply, Engineering, Gunnery, and Commissary Officer; he served on the last crew of the Sea Fox, which he helped decommission in October 1952.
The Besuga was one of the few submarines to remain in commission during the period between World War II and the Korean War and, in 1950, was one of the first ships to enter Korean waters in support United Nations forces.

In the Spring of 1959, just before graduation from Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, California, I read an article in the newspaper about the USS Nautilus (SSN-571), the first nuclear submarine to go under the North Pole.
I decided right then that that was what I wanted to do, so in September of 1959, after I had helped my family move to Crawfordsville, Oregon, I enlisted in the Navy under the Nuclear Power Program.
I'm really not much of a writer, but the story and the "peekchurs" might be worth a giggle or two!
