  USS Shreveport (LPD-12) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
USS Shreveport (LPD-12), a Cleveland-class amphibious transport dock, is the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for the city in Louisiana.
Shreveport, with Amphibious Squadron 2, departed Norfolk on 4 January 1973 for her first tour of duty with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea.
On August 31, 2005 USS Shreveport deployed with the USS Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group to the city of New Orleans, stricken and flooded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

 USS Shreveport (PF-23) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first USS Shreveport (PG-131/PF-23) was a Tacoma class frigate of the United States Navy.
She sailed for the United States on 8 March; was transferred to the operational control of the Coast Guard while en route; arrived at Boston on the 23d; then, steamed to Charleston, South Carolina for inactivation.
Shreveport was decommissioned on 9 May 1946; struck from the Navy list on 10 June; and sold for scrapping to the Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, Chester, Pennsylvania, in September 1947.

USS SHREVEPORT (LPD12) is known throughout the Fleet as the "Super Gator." The symbology of the alligator represents the amphibious characteristics of the ship, combined with the Marine Corps assault vehicles, to provide a formidable force both on sea and land.
USS Shreveport (LPD 12) returned to its homeport of Norfolk Naval Station on Sept. 18, 2004, from a seven-month deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the global war on terrorism.
USS Shreveport is named after the city of Shreveport, Louisiana, in accordance with the Naval tradition of naming LPDs after cities which bear the names of explorers and developers of America.

SHREVEPORT was decommissioned on May 09, 1946 and struck from the Navy list on June 10 of that same year.
SHREVEPORT departed Norfolk, Virginia, in early January of 1973 for her first deployment with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea.
In January of 1992, SHREVEPORT was awarded the Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy for outstanding readiness and performance during her deployment to the Middle East in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

The first Shreveport (PG-131) was laid down under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 1434) on 8 March 1943 by Walter Butler Shipbuilders, Inc., Superior, Wisc. ; reclassified PF-23 on 15 April 1943; launched on 15 July 1943 ; sponsored by Miss Nell Querbes ; and commissioned on 24 April at Algiers, La., Comdr.

USS Bataan deployed on Sept. 19 as part of a regularly scheduled deployment.
The Bataan Amphibious Ready Group (BATARG), which included the USS Shreveport and USS Whidbey Island remained in the Mediterranean until mid-October 2001 when it was directed to proceed to the North Arabian Sea to support tasking in Afghanistan and arrived on station on Nov. 21.
The Marines, along with Marines of the 15th MEU (SOC) from the USS Peleliu ARG; proceeded to take over an airstrip in southern Afghanistan, which was called Camp Rhino and became the launching point for the raids that later took Kandahar Airport, a valuable base that was used extensively by the Russians in the 1980s.

 PIONEER: The Pioneer System
Flying from the battleships USS Missouri (BB-63) and USS Wisconsin (BB-64) the United States Navy Pioneer units were extremely successful in target selection, naval gunfire support, battle damage assessment (BDA), maritime interception operations (MIO), and battlefield management.
In addition to the USS Shreveport, Pioneer is currently operational on-board the USS Denver (LPD-9) and the U.S.S. Austin (LPD-4).
Also during this particular cruise, the USS Shreveport conducted a route survey in northern Albania, providing the ground picture for possible training operations by tactical aircraft aboard the carrier battle group USS America (CV-65), which was also patrolling the Adriatic with the MEU.
