The second USS Siboney (CVE-112) was laid down as Frosty Bay on 1 April 1944 by the Todd-Pacific Shipyards Inc., Tacoma, Washington; renamed Siboney on 26 April 1944; launched on 9 November 1944; sponsored by Mrs.
Siboney stood out of San Diego on 9 June 1947 en route, via the Panama Canal Zone, to her new homeport, Norfolk, Va. The carrier arrived there on 26 June and operated between Norfolk and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, until November when she was inactivated.
Siboney was struck from the Navy list on 1 June 1970 and sold to Union Minerals and Alloys Corp., New York, a year later for scrap.

Siboney participated in evaluation tests and carrier qualifications of versions of AD and F4U aircraft in January 1952.
The years 1954 and 1955 were spent in fleet operations along the east coast, from New England to the Caribbean and in midshipman cruises to Spain during the summers.
Siboney was overhauled at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard from 28 September 1954 to 22 January 1955.

Two ships of the United States Navy have been named USS Siboney, after the town of Siboney in Cuba, the site of American landings in the Spanish-American War.
The first Siboney (ID-2999) was the civilian ship Oriente used in World War I as a troopship and returned to the New York and Cuba Mail Steamship Company after the war.
The second Siboney (CVE-112) was an escort aircraft carrier in service from 1945 to 1956.

 VS-32 Sea Control Squadron THIRTY TWO
The Maulers deployed on 28 August 1995 in USS AMERICA (CV 66) for the Joint Task Group (JTG) 95-3 deployment to the Mediterranean, Adriatic Sea and the Indian Ocean.While on deployment, the Maulers flew in United Nations missions DENY FLIGHT, SHARP GUARD, and DELIBERATE FORCE.
Following the decommissioning of USS AMERICA (CV 66), Carrier Air Wing ONE was assigned to the Atlantic Fleet Carrier USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73).
As of August 2003, VS Squadron has been with the USS Enterprise (CVN 65), currently deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of the global war on terrorism and is set to return in March 2004.

 The AMARC Experience
Sea Control Squadron 32 was commissioned as Air Anti-Submarine Squadron THIRTY TWO (VS-32) in April 1950, flying the TBM Avenger.
The units first deployment was carried out aboard the USS Palau in 1950, from the units first homeport at NAS Norfolk, VA. In 1951 the unit carried out the first of what would be a number of base moves, to NAS Quonset Point, RI.
In August 2003, the squadron was deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of the global war on terrorism onboard the USS Enterprise (CVN 65).

7 May 1959 - The classification of 36 escort carriers, designated CVE, CVU, and CVHE, was changed to AKV, Cargo Ship and Aircraft Ferry.
The change was accompanied by a change in hull numbers and marked the end of the escort carrier as a combatant ship in the U.S. Navy.

 The Goat Locker
I served on the USS MARS AFS-1 from 1987-1990.
Then on to USS Joseph Strauss DDG 16 until the end of the Australia and New Zealand visit in early spring of 1969.
I was stationed at the Naval Net Depot Melville, R.I. from Dec l951 to July 1953 as 3rd class comissaryman, I transferred to the USS Harwood DD 861 In July 53 and left the ship in June l955.

 USS Alvin Cockrell DE-366
During November and December 1945, Alvin C. Cockrell served as courier ship between Yokosuka, Kure, and Wakayama, shuttling passengers and mail between those ports.
She interrupted this routine briefly on 10 and 11 November when she operated with Siboney as the escort carrier conducted gunnery drills and flight training.
Relieved from duty with the 5th Fleet on 2 January 1946 Alvin C. Cockrell sailed for the United States.

The classification was changed to ACV (Auxiliary Aircraft Carrier) on 20 August 1942 and to CVE (Escort Carrier) on 15 July 1943.
The CVE designation went out of use when the remaining escort carriers were reclassified AKV (Aircraft Ferry) on 7 May 1959.
Launched as USS Nassuk Bay (CVE 67) on 6 Oct 1943 and renamed Solomons (CVE 67) in Nov 1943
