  Fred W. Stockham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stockham was born in Detroit, Mich., on 16 March 1881.
Stockham saw combat during the engagement at León, Nicaragua, on 6 October 1915, a little over a month before his departure from that troubled Latin American nation.
Stockham was belatedly and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by an Act of Congress on 21 December 1939, over 20 years after his sacrifice.

The Japanese submarine RO-112 is sunk by the submarine USS Batfish (SS-310) in the Philippines.
The destroyer USS Kimberley (DD-521), light minelayer USS Robert H. Smith (DM-23) and high-speed transport USS Gilmer (APD-11) are damaged by suicide plane; the destroyer escort USS Sederstrom (DE-31) by collision; and the high-speed transport USS Knudsen (APD-11) by horizontal bomber, all in the Okinawa area.
The battleship USS Colorado (BB-45) is damaged by an explosion, the destroyer USS Ammen (DD-527) by a horizontal bomber and the submarine chaser SC-737 by grounding, all in the Okinawa area.

USS Thatcher (DD-514), a Fletcher-class destroyer, was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for Rear Admiral Henry K. Thatcher (1806–1880).
Thatcher was laid down on 20 June 1942 at Bath, Maine, by the Bath Iron Works Corp.; launched on 6 December 1942; sponsored by Miss Charlotte L. Hyde; and commissioned on 10 February 1943, Lieutenant Commander Leland R. Lampman in command.

The other ships that were at the school were th USS George (DE-697), USS Raby (DE-698), USS Marsh (DE-699), (the Marsh later went to Korea), and the USS Currier (DE-700).
It was the USS McMinville, but we didn't know when we served in it.
This is significant to me since I spent a couple of fantastic years on the USS Richard B. Anderson DD-786 and the sailors of this great ship have helped to make this monument possible.

Now a floating museum, she is berthed alongside the carrier USS Intrepid on Pier 86 in New York City.

The "Mighty Mo" took part in three wars (WW II, Korea and Persian Gulf).
Arriving at Pearl Harbor, Hawai'i on June 22nd 1998 she tied up next to Ford Island, her final berthing place (near the USS Arizona Memorial).
On January 29th 1999, the "Battleship Missouri Memorial" was opened to the public and is a very popular tour for those visiting the islands.
