At 1130 on 24 May, USS Falcon (ASR-2) lowered the newly developed McCann rescue chamber--a revised version of a diving bell invented by Commander Charles B. Momsen--and, over the next 13 hours, all 33 survivors were rescued from the stricken submarine.

USS Princeton restored her TLAM strike and Aegis AAW capabilities within two hours of the mine strike and reassumed duties as the local AAW commander, providing air defense for the Coalition MCM group for 30 additional hours until relieved.
USS Tripoli was able to continue her mission for several days before being relieved by USS Lasalle (AGF 3) and USS New Orleans (LPH 11).

Fletcher proceeded to rendezvous with USS Gregory DD 802 and Radford.
Saturday 25 August, Dry dock #2 was flooded, and Pilot Milikan and YTB 256 and YTB 263 moved the Fletcher from the dry dock and moved the ship to berth B 15 ½ YTB 263 relieved YTB 256 during move.

 USS Lagarto Sub
The BAYA was never able to re-establish radio communications with the LAGARTO and it is assumed that it was this attack that was responsible for her sinking.
The captain of a nearby US submarine USS HARKBILL was a close friend of the LAGARTOS captain, he requested and was granted permission by COMSUBPAC to divert from his patrol orders for a revenge attack.
Memorial bricks in honor of the USS Lagarto and her crew will be on display in the memorials commemorative brick walkway around the conning tower.

 USS Gunnel SS-253 / Fifth War Patrol
On arrival Freemantle from the Fourth War Patrol, GUNNEL moored alongside the submarine tender USS Pelias and a relief crew reported aboard to conduct a two week refit while the regular crew were sent ashore for Rest and Recuperation at local R&R facilities.
The crew were billeted at a vacation style hotel on the beach in North Freemantle, the officers in a facility on the outskirts of Perth, and skipper McCain accommodated at “Lucknow” a cottage reserved for submarine commanding officers recuperating after war patrol.
He was a courageous and outstanding skipper beloved by his crew, whose only fault if any on this run was that his energetic luck of the draw did not pay off, an experience shared by most other skippers on some of their own war patrols.

She was renamed SS Sea in 1964, and SS Mayaguez in 1965.
On May 12, 1975 the SS Mayaguez was in a regular shipping lane in the Gulf of Siam about 60 miles from the coast of Cambodia, but only about 8 miles from Poulo Wai (Kao Wai), an island claimed by Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
At 2 PM, a 76-mm shot was fired across her bow.

Miyake Shima was about 60 miles south of the bay; the other islands noted by the Captain were not far from Miyake.
His detailed plotting of Gunnel’s movements in relation to surface and air contacts and radar interference concluded that the Japanese were using diversionary tactics and re-routing shipping away from the vicinity of the suspected submarine.
In between, the passive sonars were the only eyes and ears, but sonar state of the art then was limited, and listening conditions in the strong Japanese Current so close to shallow water were poor.

USS Dragonet (SS-293), a Balao-class submarine, was a ship of the United States Navy named for the dragonet, a family of fishes found in the warm seas of the world.
The determination and skill of her crew were further tried when she had to run through 2 days of storm to reach Midway 20 December for emergency repairs.
She called at Guam to refuel from 1 to 3 May, then proceeded to lifeguard duty south of the Japanese home islands.

this is the true life story of USS Archerfish and Her Crews, 1943 to 1968.
Prior to attending submarine school he spent a year on the USS Rendova (CVE-114).His first boat was Cobbler (SS-344) as SLJO, Weps, and Eng (54-57).
Don't know if it told about the 2 times (one time it was all hands, the other it was those of us in the conning tower) we almost were sent to Davy Jones' locker 1957-59.

While shifting berths at the Navy Yard in Pearl Harbor, the USS SARANNC (that is how it is spelled in the report I have) AO-74 rammed into the stern while passing, causing slight damage to the port side of the flight deck overhang and gun aponsons.
As the Japanese departed the USS Missouri with their orders, 400 B-29s and 1,500 carrier planes, led by Bennington fighters and bombers, was the composition for a fitting grand finale to World War II.
USS NICHOLAS (DD-449) collides with the USS BENNINGTON CVS-20 while refueling, west of the Hawaiian Islands.

I went aboard my first ship, the USS S-27, and before the week was out the Exec told me that we were heading to Hawaii, I had a letter in the mail in about an hour.
After a short stay, a couple of liberties and a visit to the USS WEST VIRGINIA which was undergoing repairs for damage received at Pearl Harbor 7 December, we sailed out of there through Puget Sound, very pretty.
The war went on another three or more years, five patrols on the USS FINBACK sinking one passenger liner, eight freighters, one gunboat, one passenger/cargo vessel, one submarine chaser and one oil tanker.
