  USS Thompson (DD-305) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The keel of the first Thompson was laid down on 25 September 1918, at San Francisco, California, by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation.
Upon completion of the refit, Thompson headed for San Diego on 8 February 1922, for resumption of operations with the Battle Fleet.
Under the terms of the 1930 London Naval Treaty limiting naval tonnage and armaments, Thompson was decommissioned on 4 April 1930, struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 22 June 1930; and sold for scrap on 10 June.

Thompson served as an escort, keeping ships in the channel as they plodded out to sea and prodding them to close up and keep in formation, while her echo-ranging gear was alert for prowling submarines off Chesapeake Bay.
Thompson remained with the Boston section and continued on to that Massachusetts port, where she commenced a 10-day navy yard availability on 15 February.
Thompson and three of her sister fast-minesweepers then became Mine Squadron (MineRon) One and were assigned to the General Line School at Monterey, California.
