Ticonderoga sailed from Pascagoula in February, truly "Combat Ready," with a demanding schedule ahead, and with the knowledge that her systems, construction, and the Ticonderoga men who man her are the very best.
The USS Ticonderoga was in the Mediterranean as part of the Theodore Roosevelt Battle Group, having left its homeport on March 22.
USS Ticonderoga was decommissioned in a traditional Navy ceremony at her homeport, Naval Station Pascagoula, Sept. 30, 2004.

Ticonderoga returned to the combat area in late May. For the remaining two and a half months of the Pacific War, her planes made regular attacks on the Japanese home islands.
The third USS TICONDEROGA was a captured, German built, merchant ship that was put into service to carry animals, troops, and supplies to Europe in World War I. On September 22nd, 1918, during her third crossing to Europe, TICONDEROGA developed engine troubles and fell behind her convoy.
USS Ticonderoga, a 2526-ton Lackawanna class screw sloop of war built at the New York Navy Yard, Brooklyn, New York, was commissioned in May 1863.

 USS Vicksburg (CG 69)
The USS VICKSBURG left its homeport on April 29, 1997 for a six-month overseas deployment with the USS JOHN F. (CV 67) Battle Group (CVBG) to relieve the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) CVBG, which had been operating in the Mediterranean Sea, Adriatic Sea, Red Sea and Persian Gulf.
USS VICKSBURG, as part of the JOHN F. (CV 67) Battle Group (CVBG) participated in Joint Task Force Exercise (JTFEX) 02-1, with Phase I of the exercise running from January 19 through 26, 2002, and Phase II running from February 7-14.
USS VICKSBURG was tasked with helping protect the USS JOHN F. (CV 67) from threats in the sky, on the surface, or underwater.

In 1864-65, he was assigned to the sloop-of-war USS Ticonderoga (1863).
Despite heavy return fire by the enemy and the explosion of the 100-pounder Parrott rifle which killed 8 men and wounded 12 more, Sgt. Binder, as captain of a gun, performed his duties with skill and courage during the first 2 days of battle.
As his ship again took position on the 13th, he remained steadfast as the Ticonderoga maintained a well-placed fire upon the batteries on shore, and thereafter, as she materially lessened the power of guns on the mound which had been turned upon our assaulting columns.

Ethan Allen, born 10 January 1737 or 1738 in Litchfield, Conn., is known chicfly for his leading role in securing the recognition of Vermont as a separate State.
During her first wartime cruise, 27 October 1861 to 30 March 1863, Ethan Allen patrolled in the Gulf of Mexico, capturing eight prizes, and destroying extensive salt works along the Florida coast, thus hampering the Confederate war effort and civilian economy.
Ethan Allen returned to Boston for repairs, and between 22 June and 28 October 1863, cruised along the New England coast to protect merchantmen and fishing craft from Southern cruisers.

Anthony A. Smalley, born in Massachusetts in 1836, was commissioned Acting Master on 27 March 1862 for service during the Civil War; but he subsequently became ill and his appointment was revoked on 1 September 1863.
When his health permitted, Smalley applied for reinstatement, and he was commissioned Actin Ensign on 1 December 1863.
On 11 May, she joined Rowe (DD-564) and Stoddard (DD-566) in screening aircraft carrier, Ticonderoga (CV-14), to Ulithi Atoll.

The US warplanes destroyed or damaged 25 North Vietnamese PT boats (claimed by US officials to be about one-half of the North Vietnamese Navy) at bases at Hon Gai, Loc Ghao, Phuc Loi, and Quang Khe; destroyed seven anti-aircraft installations at Vinh; and severely damaged an oil storage depot at Phuc Loi.
With Grant stalled at Petersburg, Virginia, and General William T. Sherman unable to capture Atlanta, the capture of the bay became the first in a series of Union victories that stretched to the fall election.
