USS Tinosa (SSN-606), a Permit-class submarine, was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for the tinosa, a poisonous, fl, tropical fish.
During this tour, Tinosa was based briefly at Port Everglades, Florida, as well as at New London and visited Bermuda in the course of her operations.
Tinosa was deactivated while still in commission on 15 July 1991, then decommissioned and stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 15 January 1992.

Parche departed Pearl Harbor on her first war patrol in March 1944, teamed with USS Bang (SS-385) and USS Tinosa (SS-283) to form a "wolf pack" preying on Japanese shipping in the Luzon Strait, between Taiwan and the northern Philippines.
After several unsuccessful pursuits, Parche drew her first blood on 4 May in a joint attack on a Japanese convoy in which two sinkings were credited to Ramage and his men, for a total of 11,700 tons.

During the first minefield probe in the East China Sea, Tinosa (Latham), after getting very successful results from her FM mine detecting gear at first, the FM broke down in the middle of a minefield, planted in 600 feet of water.
Walking-out the 110 fathoms of anchor chain, the chain broke at 89 fathoms, stranding Tinosa with mines all around her.
Fortunately hasty repairs were made to the FM, allowing Tinosa to slip out to sea and finish her patrol along the China coast.

On March 29th, 1944 USS Parche (SS-384) slipped out of Pearl Harbor with USS Tinosa (SS-283) and sister ship USS Bang (SS-385) for her first war patrol.
The USS Bang put Parche back on track again at 0350 on April 30th, as the convoy was pinpointed by a column of flame on the horizon.
On May 5th the Bang and Tinosa were both out of torpedoes and were ordered home while Parche remained on station making a thorough photoreconnaissance of military installations on the island of Ishi Gaki Jima.
