TRENTON was decommissioned on January 17, 2007, at Norfolk, Va., and transfered to the Indian Navy.
TRENTON returned to Guantanamo Bay for interim repairs and then made her way back to Norfolk on one engine, arriving on July 6, where repairs were completed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
TRENTON spent the remainder of the summer conducting drills in the Virginia capes operating area and in preparation for her second Caribbean deployment of the year.

In October, Trenton joined Richmond (CL-9) and nine destroyers in two sweeps of the northern Kuril Islands-one between the 16th and the 19th and the second between the 22d and the 29th-as a diversion during the invasion of Leyte.

USS Trenton, a 7050-ton Omaha class light cruiser built at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was commissioned in April 1924.
Trenton was assigned to the Scouting Fleet and the Special Service Squadron from 1929 until 1933, was in the Pacific in 1933-34 and had another tour in Latin American waters with the Special Service Squadron in 1934-35.
USS Trenton was sold for scrapping in December 1946.

TRENTON got underway on 9 April for the east coast and reached her home port, Norfolk, Va., on 12 May. The amphibious transport dock remained in port until 1 June when she departed Hampton Roads for shakedown training out of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

USS Alert operated out of ports on the Atlantic coast of the United States during the fall and winter of 1875 and 1876 until departing New York City, New York, on 26 May 1876 on the first leg of a voyage to the Asiatic Station.
USS Alert widened her horizons in the fall of 1885 with more frequent visits to Chinese ports; and during the early months of 1886, extended her range still farther to include southeast Asian ports, notably Bangkok and Singapore.
USS Alert tended submarines for the Torpedo Flotilla of the Pacific Fleet...until late in 1917.

I was deployed on the USS Trenton for her Mediterranean deployment with embarked elements of Marine Battalion Landing Team 2/8, departed Morehead City on 27 July, as part of Mediterranean Amphibious Ready Group 2-78.
She was commissioned on 12 August 1975 in Pascagoula, Mississippi, USS SPRUANCE (DD-963) is the first of a class of 31 destroyers developed for the primary mission of Undersea Warfare.

TRENTON completed overhaul at Metro Machine Corporation shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia in June 1980 and, following refresher training, sailed in August to participate in the TEAMWORK-80 amphibious exercise conducted in the fjords of Norway near Trondheim.
TRENTON operated in the fjords and supported the Navy SEAL and Marine Force Reconnaissance advance force operations as part of this exercise.

He was appointed a midshipman, from Delaware, on May 29, 1920, was graduated from the Naval Academy on May 15, 1924, and after a short period of temporary duty was under instruction at the Navy Yard, New York, was commissioned as an ensign in the United States Navy.
Ensign Drexler reported for duty to the USS Trenton on Oct. 4, 1924, and it was aboard this vessel that he heroically met his untimely death 16 days later.
At 3:35 on the afternoon of 20 October 1924, while the Trenton was preparing to fire trial installation shots from the two six-inch guns in the forward twin mounts of that vessel, two charges of powder ignited.

 Friendly Navies Sought For Unwanted U.S. Ships
On the heels of the Kidd-class transfer is the handoff of the USS Trenton amphibious transport ship to the Indian navy, a transaction that is scheduled for Jan. 17, 2007.
The company also expects to be prepping the USS Anchorage dock landing ship, which was decommissioned in 2003, for a future transfer to Taiwan, although the deal is not yet final.

In early November nearly 300 Indian sailors joined the crew of Trenton to begin preparing for the ship’s decommissioning and transfer Jan. 17, 2007.

When the ship was transferred to Britain I was then assigned to the cruiser USS Trenton (CL11), then to the USS Sabin (AO25) at Philadelphia Navy Yard which was transferred to the Base Force, US Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, T.H. on normal duties.
While on operations, Sabine was struck by the destroyer USS Shaw (Shaw proceeded to Pearl for dry-docking where she was severely damaged 7 Dec. 1941).
After shakedown the ship proceeded to England and hence to Normandy on D-day, 6 June 1944, escorted troops to the Utah beach, then to shore bombardment and screening until 8 June when the ship received severe damage from an explosion that disabled her.

Capt. Donald Irving Thomas was born in Amoy, China on March 28, 1910 and attended grade schools in Massachusetts and Connecticut prior to entering the Naval Academy in 1928.
He became the gunnery officer on USS McCormick in September, 1932 and two months later became the gunery and operations officer on the staff of commander, Destroyer Squadron 36.
His next assignments were as executive officer on USS Borie; communications officer on USS Trenton; and communications officer on the staff of commander, Cruiser Division Three.
