Abrams, from South Los Angeles, and Wilmore, from Chicago, were brought to Tucson by the 770 Club, a nonprofit that supports the crew of the sub and its families.
Hilda Oropeza Chihak, community and government relations manager for Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, said the program was launched in response to a survey by Raytheon last year showing that middle school students would rather clean their rooms or go to the dentist than do math.

Anyone familiar with the grainy footage showing the sinking of the USS Arizona, smoke and flames erupting from the craft ripped apart by Japanese bombs, may think the battleship was beyond salvage.
The center, finished in 2003, also is home to the USS Arizona Memorial Lounge, where more than 100 artifacts from the ship are on display.
An 87-piece silver service, which cost $9,000 in 1916 when the people of Arizona presented it to the battleship, was removed from the USS Arizona in January 1941 by Navy officials concerned about the possibilities of war.
