USS Wake Island (CVE-65) was an Casablanca class escort carrier of the United States Navy.
Wake Island's surface search radar was jammed by enemy transmission, and the escort carrier went to general quarters at 1714.
Wake Island was then detached on 2 June and, escorted by Ralph Talbot (DD-390), proceeded to Kerama Retto for replenishment.

 USS Pueblo (AGER-2) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
USS Pueblo (AGER-2) is a United States ship, famous for being boarded and captured by small number of soldiers of Democratic People's Republic of Korea in 1968, when the DPRK stated that she strayed into their territorial waters, in what is known as the Pueblo incident.
On December 8, 1941, the river gunboat USS Wake (PR-3) was captured by Japanese forces while moored in Shanghai.
The USS Pueblo is one of the primary tourist attractions in Pyongyang, North Korea.

 USS Bowfin - Submarines in Pearl Harbor 7th Dec.
Bernard Clarey, a lieutenant on 7 December 1941 and executive officer of the submarine USS Dolphin, is a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack.
USS Dolphin's duty crew had manned all our machine guns and small arms and men were shooting at the enemy planes as they passed about 400 yards astern of our position at the pier.
Admiral Clarey was largely responsible for saving USS Bowfin from being scrapped or sunk as a target, for bringing her back to Pearl Harbor, and for her eventual restoration.

Decommissioned on April 5, 1946, the WAKE ISLAND was stricken from the Navy list on the 17th; and subsequently sold for scrap to the Boston Metals Co., Baltimore, Md., on April 19 1946.
USS WAKE ISLAND (CVE 65) was laid down under a Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 1102) on 6 February 1943 at Vancouver, Wash., by the Kaiser Shipbuilding Co., Inc.; launched on 15 September 1943 sponsored by Mrs.
Four days later, WAKE ISLAND was detached and left Lingayen Gulf in TG 77.14--a force consisting of eight escort carriers and their screen to retire to Ulithi, Caroline Islands.

Shown at left are the USS Evans (right) and the USS Hadley during the epic May 11, 1945 battle.
The USS Evans (DD552) was built in the Gulf Shipbuilding Company yards in Chickasaw, AL, and commissioned on December 11, 1943 at Mobile, AL.
USS Departing from Balboa on March 3 with Task Group 12.3, consisting of the same ships as Task Group 29.8 less the USS Thomason, the Evans arrived at Pearl Harbor on March 16 for a period of tender availability, full power trials and gunnery exercises.

 Wake Island Surrender
Wake Island is an atoll only 3 sq mi (7.8 sq km) in size, located in the central Pacific between Hawaii and Guam.
Wake is composed of three islets - Wake, Wilkes, and Peale.
The Wake surrender was received by Marine officer, Brigadier General L.H.M. Sanderson, USMC, and the first American again to set foot on the soil of Wake, Colonel Walter L.J. Bayler, USMC, celebrated as "the last man off Wake Island," which he had left on 21 December 1941.

Along with Guam, Wake Island was one of the key American outposts in the central Pacific, a vital part of the supply line between Hawaii and the Philippines.
A small atoll 2300 miles west by southwest of Hawaii, Wake was one of the first objectives of Japan's military planners.
Composed of three small islands - Peale, Wilkes, and the main island Wake - the atoll was home to 450 Marines and sailors, as well as nearly 1500 civilians, including employees of Pan Am, which operated a hotel and seaplane station as part of its Philippine Clipper service.

As these landings began, the bulk of the active defense on Wake fell to mobile forces comprised of Marines, sailors and civilians, for a major portion of the defense battalion's strength was immobilized at the three and five-inch guns.

 USS GUAM SHIP
The history of the USS Guam’s bell can be traced back to the island of Guam where, in 1927, the local Chamber of Commerce organized a campaign to raise funds to buy a plaque and bell for the original USS Guam, the gunboat deployed to the Yangtze River in China.
The bell and plaque were officially presented to USS Guam’s commanding officer, LCDR R. Autry in 1929.
During a visit to the island of Guam, Bill Banning,, a former US Marine, noticed the bell and plaque at the library and began his crusade to have the bell returned the USS Guam so that it could once again serve the proud ship for which it was created.

 USS CHAFFEE DE 230 History
The USS Chaffee set her first war cruising watch 31 May as she cleared the anti?submarine nets at the mouth of the Charleston Harbor and headed due east for the island of Bermuda.
The Chaffee, after ascertaining the USS Marlin's ability to surface, proceeded at full speed to assist the stricken SC Coming abeam of the disabled SC the Chaffee made fast to the starboard side and quickly put four submersible pumps and two handy billies to work, checking the SC's grave loss of freeboard.
Upon being detached by the Wake Island at the entrance of the swept channel to Narragansett Bay, the Chaffee and Holt rendezvoused with the USS MISSION BAY (CVE 59) escorting her on the return run to Norfolk, whereupon they were detached.

USS Panay, well marked and escorting neutral merchant ships, was attacked and sunk near Nanking by renegade Japanese air and ground forces.
In late November, 1941 three of the five remaining American gunboats made a dash for Manila Bay from Shanghai and Hong Kong leaving the USS Wake at Shanghai and USS Tutuila at Chungking.
