Wasp's single action of war was in October 1812 when she engaged HMS Frolic[?] in battle, firing from a distance of 50-60 yards.
Wasp was returned to her owners in early 1814 and the Lake Champlain battery transferred to the schooner USS Ticonderoga.

She was outfitted at Baltimore during the winter of 1775–1776; and commissioned in December 1775 or January 1776, Capt. William Hallock in command.
Wasp and Providence covered the Marines as they went ashore, but their guns never fired because the landing was not opposed.
Wasp, however, parted with the main fleet and made her way independently back to the Delaware capes and thence into port at Philadelphia, where she arrived on 4 April.

Wasp participated in the Cuban blockade in November 1962 and recovered the Gemini 4 astronauts in June of 1965.

USS WASP (LHD1) is the tenth Navy ship to be named "WASP." Ships of the LHD 1 multipurpose amphibious assault ship program are named for famous U.S. Navy warships which themselves were not named for battles.
Previous U.S. Navy ships named WASP include: a schooner, 1775-1777; a sloop of war, 1806-1813; another schooner, 1810-1814; a tender sloop, 1813-1814; a ship-rigged sloop of war, 1814; an iron-hulled sidewheel steamer, 1865-1876; a steam yacht; 1898-1921; and the most famous of the nine, two aircraft carriers: CV 7, 1940-1942, and CV 18, 1943-1972.
USS WASP (LHD1) is the lead ship in an all-new class of multi-purpose amphibious assault ships built by Ingalls Shipbuilding division of Litton in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Ordered to the USS Brooklyn, July 1860, Henry was Assistant Hydrographer to Lieutenant Jeffers, USN, during survey of Chiriqui Lagoon, Isthmus of Panama.
He performed night picket duty with howitzer boats under the walls of Sumter, had temporary command of the USS Nipsic and of the Canandaigua and for several months was commanding and senior officer of the off-shore blockade with four vessels, including the Canandaigua, as flag-ship.
During that period commanded the USS Wasp part of the time, and at expiration of his cruise, Henry returned home by mail steamer.
