USS Wasp (CV-18) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wasp then resumed antisubmarine warfare exercises along the Atlantic seaboard and in the Caribbean until she underwent overhaul in the fall of 1963 for FRAM (Fleet rehabilitation and modernization) overhaul in the Boston Naval Shipyard.
In the summer of 1948, Wasp was taken out of the reserve fleet and placed in the New York Naval Shipyard for refitting and alterations to enable her to accommodate the larger, heavier, and faster planes of the jet age.
The respite was brief, for, on 30 June, Wasp sortied in TG 58.2—with TG 68.1—for strikes at Iwo Jima and Chichi Jima.
