  U.S. Special Operations Command
USSOCOM’s mission is to support the geographic CINCs, ambassadors and their country teams, and other government agencies by preparing SOF to successfully conduct special operations, including CA and PSYOP.
USSOCOM was also given responsibility for managing a separate major force program (MFP), MFP-11, which ensures the SOF program has visibility at the Department of Defense and congressional levels.
USSOCOM exists to provide special operations forces to the National Command Authority (NCA), regional combatant commanders, and American ambassadors and their country teams for successful conduct of special operations during both peace and war.

USSOCOM has identified 4 technical topics for the FY02.1 solicitation and proposals will only be accepted for those topics.
The USSOCOM Program Executive Officers (PEOs) responsible for the research and development in these specific areas initiated the topics and are responsible for the technical evaluation of the proposals.

 SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCE STRUCTURE
USSOCOM was formally established as a unified combatant command at MacDill AFB, FL, on 16 April 1987, and commanded by a four star general officer with the title of Commander in Chief, United States Special Operations Command (USCINCSOC).
When USSOCOM forces deploy from CONUS into a theater for a specific short-duration mission, these forces are normally attached to the theater combatant commander and may be placed OPCON to the JFSOCC.

USSOCOM's primary experimental initiative will focus on facilitating Rapid Decisive Operations (RDO).
The experiment is intended to test operational potential to accelerate RDO by shaping the beginning state of a conflict, setting the conditions for quick victory, and shaping the transition to peace.
USSOCOM will integrate Special Operations Forces (SOF) into each Service portion of the experiment to ensure capabilities and concepts are synchronized with each of the Services' transformation concepts.

The maximum amount of SBIR funding allocated for a USSOCOM Phase II award is $750,000 and the maximum time frame for a Phase II award is 24 months.

 Knight's SR-47
The weapons are based on the M-4/M-4A1 carbine variants of the M-16 assault rifle family, but fire the 7.62 x 39mm Soviet-designed cartridge and magazines used in the AK-47 assault rifle.
David Lutz, vice president of military marketing for Knight's Armament Company, said: "For the last couple of years there was a requirement in USSOCOM for an addition to their [M-4 series carbine] SOPMOD [Special Operations Peculiar Modification] kit that they called a 'Special Purpose Receiver' (SPR).
According to Lutz, government laboratory efforts to satisfy the SPR requirement were further complicated by "user input" from the USSOCOM specifying that special forces did not want to use the "straight box" M-16 magazines but instead wanted to utilize "battlefield pick-up" AK-47 magazines taken from opponents.

Dazer is a portable rifle-like, shoulder-fired, non-scanning, manually operated tactical laser weapon whose use is reserved for U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) missions.
