Ubii - Biocrawler   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The Ubii were a Germanic tribe first encountered dwelling on the right bank of the Rhine in the time of Julius Caesar, who formed an alliance with them in 55 BC in order to launch attacks across the river.
The Ubii remained loyal allies of Rome, and were instrumental in crushing the Batavian revolt in 70.
They seem to have been so thoroughly Romanised that they adopted the name Agrippenses in honour of their “founder”, and their later history is submerged in that of eastern Gaul as a whole.

 Histories by P Cornelius Tacitus
He directed that the territories of the Ubii and the Treveri should be ravaged by the several tribes on which they bordered, and that another detachment should cross the river Mosa, to threaten the Menapii and the Morini and the frontiers of Gaul.
In both quarters plunder was collected; with peculiar hostility in the case of the Ubii, because, this nation, being of German origin, had forsworn its native country, and assumed the Roman name of the Agrippinenses.
He entrusted to the Batavians the care of the machines and the vast siege-works, and when the Transrhenane tribes clamoured for battle, he bade them go and cut through the ramparts, and, if repulsed, renew the struggle; their numbers were superfluously large, and their loss was not felt.

The Histories [of Ancient Rome] by Cornelius Tacitus:book 4
But when panic-stricken messengers arrived with news of the storming of forts, the wiping-out of cohorts and the expulsion of everything Roman from the Island of the Batavians, Flaccus instructed the legate Munius Lupercus to move out against the enemy.
The Batavian leader ordered the Ubii and Treviri to be plundered by their respective neighbours, and another force was sent beyond the Maas to strike a blow at the Menapiu and Morini in the north of Gaul.
In both theatres booty was gathered, and they showed special vindictiveness in plundering the Ubii because this was a tribe of German origin which had renounced its nationality and preferred to be known by the Roman name of 'Agrippinenses'.

These connections must be viewed with indulgence; the early Franks were not a lost tribe of Cimmerians, nor were they a north-wandering group of Classical Greeks.
They, in concert with their near relatives (the Chatti, Ubii, and Hermanduri), and their somewhat more distant kin (Frisians, Saxons, Lombards and Goths), wandered out of Scandinavia in the late first Millenium BCE.
The enumeration (and the Hellenic name of the 5th ruler) hearkens back to their supposed Cimmerian antecedents - see the mythologic Franks at the beginning of this section.

Hi all, I think the confusion over the floppy/SCSI connector and using the battery bay for a 3rd drive are a mix up over the UltraBook I and UltraBook II machines.

Unfortunately, I have never seen a UBI, and am only passingly familiar with the UBII (those products had already been developed when Tadpole bought RDI, so I never worked on the design).
