  Udaloy Class - Project 1155
Udaloy reflects design changes that addressed the shortcomings of the previous Krivak program; namely the lack of helicopter facilities, limited sonar capabilities, and light air-defenses.
The Udaloy has two helicopter hangars with doors that serve as a ramp to the flight deck.
Generally the Soviet equivalent of the American Spruance class, there are variations in SAM and air search radar among units of the class.

 Sovremenny Class - Project 956
The Sovremenny Class is a Russian class of destroyers designed to engage hostile ships by means of missile attack, and to provide warships and transport ships with protection against ship and air attack.
The late units of the class, designated Project 956A, are modified with the improved SA-N-17 (Grizzly) surface-to-air missile and the 3M-82 Moskit anti-ship missile.
Destroyer #610 ""persistent", the flagship of the Baltic Fleet, was built in Saint Petersburg on the northern shipyard.

 New Sovietskiy Udaloy-VI class ASW Destroyer
The Udaloy class Destroyers, upgraded to the standards of the Udaloy-II, and in some cases brought up to a general new level of the Udaloy-III, became the primary ASW surface warship of the Russian Navy under President Vladimir Putin.
After the stunning success of the Kirov class conversions, and the beginning of the Moskvas conversions, the SSSR began to convert the Udaloys, at least those judged to be in sufficient condition to be converted to MDC technologies.
Of the Twelve Udaloys in the Black Sea fleet, one traveled with the Kirov to the Romania Free City of Constanta, six are confirmed destroyed, and the remaining three are part of Warlord Orloff's flotilla, and are in very poor condition, though they can still go to sea.

The last large class of conventional destroyers built by the Soviets, the Skoryy design originated in 1945, using the hull and machinery of a previous design.
This hulk appears to be one of the vast Skoryy class of destroyers.
The 'KARA' class ships are generally identified as cruisers, but in fact carried the same designation (BPK) as Soviet destroyers, and their ASW role is more typical of destroyers in western navies.

In responce to the US Navy's Arleigh Burke class Destroyers, Russian designers began to develop an improved version of the Udaloy class in 1992.
The Udaloy II class was designed to be a multi purpose ship and has improved missile and electronic systems over the older Udaloy I. The Udaloy II class was intended to lead a group of six Udaloy I's but these plans were never realized as only one ship was ever completed.
Destroying the main sensory array behind the command tower will have the same effect, but the command staff will not be killed instantly.

The Sovremenny class destroyers, intended primarily as Anti-surface and Anti-air destroyers and built alongside the Udaloy class had largely ceased production, and were smaller, and less effective than the Udaloys, but more suited to the role of AAW combat.
After their Mega-Damage conversions were completed, the Sovremenny class destroyers were excellent Anti-Aircraft destroyers, with a huge compliment of medium and short range SAMs, but strangely lacking in LRMs, though they still held their two quadruple cruise missile launchers.
Of the twelve in the Baltic Sea Fleet, seven were destroyed outright, and three others are in the hands of Warlord Sokolov; Two have been stripped for parts to keep the other running, though one of the two stripped could be brought back to service with the help of the NGR.

Project no 956 Sarych was laid in 1979 and the first vessel of this class was commissioned in 1984 under the name "Sovremenny" (hence the NATO designation "Sovremenny-class") and is the latest Russian design for a dedicated AsuW(anti surface warfare) destroyer with fears SSM and SAM armament.
The Sovremenny class is, as earlier mentioned, a dedicated AsuW destroyer and the emphasis is on surface to surface and surface to air capability and it has only limited (self-defense) ASW capability - it consists of two twin 533mm torpedo-launchers and two RPK-5/RBU-1000 6-barrelled ASW rocket launchers with a range of 1000m.
This class of vessel should be an integrated part of a Russian carrier task force.

The anti-shipping missile loadouts of the Kriov Class, the Slava Class and the Oscar Class subs particularly are designed to kill US carriers from 200+ miles away.
I hope the poster above is correct and that we have LA class ships, or maybe one of the Seawolf's, monitoring and tailing the (up to three) Oscars supposedly a part of this group.
If we are wise, we will have trailers (Improved LA Class subs) on each of the Oscars and will put them down if they so much as open their missile hatches within rang of any of our high value units.

The fourth of class, Zakharov was scrapped after a fire in March 1992.
Opinion: Obvious efforts are being made to keep this class in service at the expense of the Sovremennys.

The project 1155.1, also known as Udaloy II, is an improved derivative of the Project 1155 ship featuring eight Moskit supersonic anti-ship missiles instead of Musson anti-submarine missile, one 130mm two-barrel AK-130 gun replacing the AK-100 gun, and additional 2 Kasthan close-in weapon systems with 64 missiles.
There is only a single Udaloy II destroyer in service with the Russian Navy.

NEWS- The U.S navy has recently began construction of the USS Virginia, name ship of a class of SSNs that will be 30 strong and will replace the older 688 class SSNs.

The Seawolf class boats have a lot of these improvements, but many of them are unique to the Virginia-class boats.
Following the detention of a Russian fishing trawler ("Elektron") in Norwegian-claimed fishing areas on Saturday, the Russians are sending a Udaloy-class destroyer, RNS Admiral Levchenko, on a mission to "conduct surveillance of Russia's territorial waters to prevent the unauthorized entry of foreign ships".
They claim the deployment of the destroyer has nothing to do with the detention of the Elektron, and are allowing diplomatic efforts to work.

The French Navy was represented by FNS Marne (a Replenishment Tanker and the Flagship of the French Admiral Commanding French Forces in the Indian Ocean), FNS Dupleix (an Anti-submarine Destroyer) and an Atlantique MK II aircraft (Maritime Patrol), operating from Goa.

 Ship review
The Sovrmenny (Project 956) class of guided missile destroyers was designed for anti-ship operations and to complement the anti-submarine capabilities of the Udaloy class of destroyers.
These ships, commissioned in 1985, are roughly the size of the United States Navy Ticonderoga class Aegis cruisers.
This is an original Pit-Road Skywave series Sovrmenny Class Destroyer from the 90's.
