Udhagamandalam or Ooty is a beautiful place and there also beautiful places surrounding it.
It is situated on the Kalhatty slopes, 13 kms from Udhagamandalam on the Mysore Kalhatty Ghat road.
Udhagamandalam attracts lots of people during its Summer Festival and it is the best event during the season in May. Regular cultural programmes, fashion shows, flower and fruit shows, boat races, boat pageantry, dog shows etc. are held during the festival.

Udhagamandalam, which is the Head Quarters of the district, is the largest and most important hill station in south India.
This principle station on the Nilgiris is at an elevation of 2286 meters and situated at the center of the district.

The problem has been compounded by the fact that Coimbatore-Udhagamandalam route is a monopoly of the Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation (TSTC) and the absence of competition from the private bus operators has evidently made the TSTC rather smug.
Partly, this is due to the fact that nearly half the distance is in the ghat section, where the vehicles have to move at a relatively slow speed.
