Bangalore, Apr. 26: Udupi District has topped the state in the SSLC results this year.
Last year Dakshina Kannada had topped the results while Udupi had been on second spot.

According to the Deputy Commissioner's office, Udupi district received a rainfall of 89.6 mm in 24 hours till 8 a.m.

Corporation Bank, the oldest banking institution in the erstwhile undivided Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka and one of the oldest banks in India, was founded in 1906 in the Temple Town of Udupi, by a small group of philanthropists led by Khan Bahadur Haji Abdulla Haji Kasim Saheb Bahadur.
To overcome these drawbacks and also to provide banking facilities for Udupi in particular and the district in general, a cosmopolitan group of philanthropists led by Haji Abdulla Saheb made a bold venture to start this institution.
The indigenous banking was largely in the hands of a few rich private individuals and something had to be done to provide relief to the common man from the clutches of the money lenders who held full sway.

UDUPI: The Deputy Commissioner, T. Sham Bhatt, said on Friday that the issue of increase in fares of private city and service buses will be decided at a joint meeting of the Regional Transport Authorities of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts shortly.
He said that he, along with the authorities, had checked the fares charged by the private buses in Udupi city and found that they are not adhering to the fares agreed in the last RTA meeting.
