 Uechi Ryu
Uechi Ryu (上地流) is a style of Okinawan Karate originated by Kanbun Uechi (上地完文).
Kanbun Uechi's son, Kanei Uechi, taught the style at the Futenma City Dojo, Okinawa, and was considered the first Okinawan to sanction the teaching to foreigners.
Kanbun Uechi is quoted as saying "All is in Sanchin." Though it is not difficult to learn the movements of Sanchin, it is thought to take a lifetime to master the form.

It is the most common block in Uechi Ryu.
I think you mean a sideways parry on a kick, not a downblock, unless you reverse the direction of the circle block, which is not something taught in traditional Uechi.
I though those with Uechi as a core art might be interested in another look at the wauke.

I can't speak for other Okinawan systems, but I can assure you that every Uechi practitioner I have encountered is knowlegable that the style came from southern China originally.
Part of this could be due to the fact that the style is the closest to its roots out of all Okinawan systems.
