Ukrainian literary translation had developed since the beginning of the 19th century (together with a new Ukrainian literature on folk language base) under the colonial status of Ukraine and (very often) – under the direct administrative restrictions over the use of Ukrainian language.
Therefore the most prominent works of Ukrainian scholars on the problems of literary translation had either the character of formal description of separate texts (like the text-book by V.Koptilov, 1982, new edition of 2003), or were restricted to the aspects of literature studies only (works by M.Rylsky, M.Novykova etc.).
The analysis of the reception of the two authors in Ukrainian literature, together with the history of the translation of their writings into Ukrainian, was carried by H.Kochur with an allowance for the wide cultural and social backgrounds.
