Ula class submarine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ula class submarine is a Norwegian military submersible design, stemming from a 1972 decision to modernize the Royal Norwegian Navy submarine fleet.
The construction of the vessels was an international project: the combat systems were made in Norway, the attack sonar was from Germany, the flank sonar was from France, the hull sections were produced in Norway, and the boats were assembled in Germany (where they are known as Type 210) by Thyssen Nordseewerke.
In recent years, several submarines of the Ula class have been deployed in the Mediterranean Sea in support of the NATO operation Active Endeavour, where their intelligence gathering ability have surpassed expectations.

Military Medicine: Acute stress reactions after submarine accidents
Submarine duty is widely recognized as one of the most stressful and psychologically demanding forms of military service.
Because the submarine is a high-reliability military organization with special emphasis on careful selection and intensive training of personnel, we would expect that submarine crew members would reveal less acute stress reactions compared with other groups of naval personnel exposed to fatal training accidents.
The submarine accidents occurred from 1996 to 1999 and involved three different submarine crews operating conventional diesel-powered Norwegian NATO submarines of the Kobben and Ula class.
