Ulexite is a structurally complex mineral, with a basic structure containing chains of sodium, water and hydroxideoctahedrons.
Ulexite is found with the mineral borax and is directly deposited in arid regions fromthe evaporation of water in intermittent lakes called playas.
Ulexite is also found in a vein-like bedding habit composed ofclosely-packed fibrous crystals, also known as " TV rock" due to its unusualoptical characteristics.

SLU Physics - More Optical Properties of Ulexite
Ulexite, a mineral comprised of parallel optical fibers, has a property of taking incident light and refracting it into one, two, or three circular cones.
There is evidence that this may be due to the ulexite’s many fibers acting as diffracting slits.
However, there is more compelling evidence that it may be due to leakage between adjacent fibers.
